When is a smoker not a smoker?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By *0hnnyBrav0 OP   Man  over a year ago

Great Wyrley

I have smoked since I was 12. I'm 40 now and am 11 days cigarette free.

I didn't give up intentionally, I started using one of the vaporisers to get my nicotine fix and just haven't purchased any cigs since.

Even when I smoked, before a meet I would be freshly showered and in freshly laundered clothing with brushed teeth as I didn't like the smell of smoke on myself or my clothes so why should I subject that to someone I want to get intimate with.

Anyway, now I use the vaporiser, does that mean I am now a non smoker or should I leave 'smoker' on my profile?

Well done on giving up and doing well.

I'm not going to be helpful here, because I genuinely don't know lol

Although you are no longer smoking cigarettes, you are technically still smoking something.

See what everyone else says.

Keep it up (the non smoking that is lol)

I'm one of those ex-smokers that simply won't be in the same small room as a smoker and certainly won't get vaguely intimate with one but if you have given up then I would state you are an a non-smoker and maybe put a line in about the e-cigs in your profile.

Despite your fantastic dedication to your appearance and cleanliness, you would have probably still smelled of smoke.

closer than you think

you can call yourself a non-smoker after 2 years cig free (so my doctor said!)

.

There's no actual smoke from a vapouriser, so no, you're not a smoker. The smoky smell comes from the tobacco and the tar in cigs, nicotine is odourless and colourless.

Congrats x Don't go back to cigarettes.

For the purposes of a meet i'd say you are a nicotine user .

The vapouriser gives you a nicotine shot. So you are still taking in nicotine.

Id _iew someone who has not lit and smoked tobacco for a couple of days as a nonsmoker for social interaction purposes. Technically it is up to the person themselves to determine their own status and who can describe themselves to others, if required. We dont need an official guide or definition. People can clearly communicate.

According to my ex-partners doctor it takes 2 years of no nictotine whatsoever before you can fully combat the craving and be classed as a non-smoker, if you are reliant on the vapours and therefore the nictotine, surely that implies medically you are still a smoker

I'd lump Vapor thingies into the "trying to give up" category. It's kinda the same as the inhaler, spray, gum, etc, etc.

I know people that haven't smoked for years and years but still get cravings.

I think the clue is in the name "smoker". There is no smoke assoicated with e-cigarettes, gums or anything else.

I wouldn't feel I needed to declare my caffine addiction so why should I declare a nicotine addiction?

Just a thought.

If you don't inhale or exhale smoke then no you aren't a smoker. You are now a vaper, congratulations.

For the purposes of this site I'd say you are a non-smoker. Potential meets don't care whether you are "medically" a smoker, they care whether you smell and taste like one.

Mention the vaping in your profile then everything is disclosed and people can satisfy themselves as to whether you are someone they would like to get dirty with

You'll be surprised Libertine.

Its weird at first but once you have started you don't get the craving for the cigs as the nicotine is replaced through the juice.

When you do have the cigarette it becomes less and less enjoyable.....

Disgusting habit so very well done for giving up, must be hard. I have a habit of making people give up as whenever a smoker messages me, I politely say I don't meet smokers and the reply 9 times out of 10 is they've given up lol! Keep up the good work

It's not just about "smoke". It is possible to taste the nicotine when kissing a vaper.

Declare it in your profile to be on the safe side.

Well done for giving up cigarettes. In time perhaps you'll be able to quit nicotine altogether

Vapers take nicotine orally and it some will be able to taste it when kissing.

No need to declare a nicotine addiction but it would be considerate to let people know you may taste of nicotine.

I very much doubt you'll be able to taste it at all. Can you taste the caffine in coffee? People should also declare what they had for breakfast too by the same logic. I'm not a fan of tomatoes

I haven't had a cig or any kind of nicotine replacement since 30 December. I don't class myself as a non smoker rather someone who hasn't had a cig for a while. For me it's a mind thing and it works.

I'm not guessing that people might be able to taste it. I know for a fact that sometimes non-smokers can taste nicotine when kissing vapers.

You asked, I gave you an informed reply. I'm sorry if the answer isn't what you want to hear.

A lot of smokers seriously underestimate how sensitive to smoke and nicotine non-smokers can be. Think how many are in denial and believe that if they shower, brush their teeth and don't smoke for an hour or two, nobody will know.

It's still considerate to let people know if you vape so they can make an informed decision. It'll potentially lead to bad feeling and wasted time otherwise.

In the same way, I wouldn't turn up to a meet stinking and tasting of garlic or onions because it's inconsiderate.

If there was a risk my breakfast could still be tasted by the time of a meet, I would either eat something different or warn the other party/parties to let them decide if it would be a problem.

As for caffeine, I believe that is tasteless (but no, if someone said they wouldn't meet coffee drinkers, I'd tell them I drink coffee and wouldn't arrive tasting of it if they still wanted to meet).

Why wouldn't anyone declare they vape? The only reason I can see is that it might get them fewer meets. But why omit information to get meets with people who wouldn't otherwise want to meet? It's a recipe for bad feeling and wasted time.

If you're used to him smoking maybe you aren't as sensitive to it as some non-smokers though?

I did also say "sometimes" and to "some people". I've heard other non-smokers say it so I know it isn't just me.

I've been a vaper exclusively for three weeks. I was at a beer festival last night and was told that us vapers still have to stand outside, and Network Rail says we can't vape on platforms, so I guess we are still smokers to the rest of the world.

I smell and taste of vanilla personally, as nicotine has no favour. What non-smokers taste when kissing smokers is all the shit that's in ciggies, like tar, tobacco, benzyl whatever, and other delightful ingredients.

"You asked, I gave you an informed reply. I'm sorry if the answer isn't what you want to hear. "

That isn’t the case at all. I’m not offended in the slightest of your opinion. An opinion is what it is, which is why I have no idea why you considered it ‘informed’ whilst no one elses is, including someone who has also said that the nicotine in them can’t be tasted

"A lot of smokers seriously underestimate how sensitive to smoke and nicotine non-smokers can be. Think how many are in denial and believe that if they shower, brush their teeth and don't smoke for an hour or two, nobody will know."

Some may but quite a few are all to well aware. Going back to what you last said “Vapers take nicotine orally” I’m sure you already know that most things are infact ingested orally hence my comment about breakfast. So you want to know about everything (that you can’t detect anyway) that goes into their system?

It seems you are getting a little confused with the difference between vaping and smoking and blurring the lines to justify your well informed reply. You do realise that the juice which creates the vapour comes in different flavours anyway?

Yes, I know and I'm not confused in the slightest. I'm telling you from experience some people can taste nicotine when kissing vapers. The flavour is short lived. The nicotine taste is longer lasting, especially in higher concentration juice. Nicotine can taste awful to non-smokers.

I repeat, if someone stated they didn't want to meet coffee drinkers, I wouldn't contact them. If they contacted me I would tell them I drink coffee.

I don't see why anyone would not put this in their profile to allow others to make an informed decision.

Nicotine has a very distinct taste.

I don't understand the defensiveness of some smokers/vapers/whateverers about people not wanting to meet them.

I get that it's not nice to be excluded but we all have criteria for who we do and don't want to meet.

Lol, I'm not being defensive. As I am never likely to give you a full on snog with tongues then I am not worried about being excluded either. Obviously you are hypersensitive to nicotine, but you are not everyone, and others may think what you experience is normal when it isn't. Every dictionary and scientific description states that nicotine is flavourless and odourless, and in the case of vaping the flavour is added to the liquid so we have some gustatory pleasure to sucking on a warm metal tube.

Each to their own of course, and you are well within your rights to say 'ew no' to anyone, smoker or not. But I think some people were thinking you may have been confused between nicotine and tar, which is obviously not the case. Do whatever makes you happy.

Well it's a starter for 10 as Bamber Gascoigne would say but I hate to put cold water on your enthusiasm but nicotine is pretty nasty stuff. We are sure you can taste it in cum and spunk and it's quite bitter so sadly we'll have to give you 7 out of 10 for the effort and urge you to go further. Good thing is your pubes and armpits wont sweat the horrid odour after exertion and your breath will be much much sweeter. Wahey, all good. LOL

"I've been a vaper exclusively for three weeks.

I like the taste of vanilla........

So do I, which is why I vape it. I do have coconut to try next though. And if anyone has tried chocolate let me know. "

The cappuccino I have has a great after taste of chocolate! Its really quite distinct!!

PM me and I'll send you a link to where I got it from if you want.

Nicotine has a very distinct taste.

I don't understand the defensiveness of some smokers/vapers/whateverers about people not wanting to meet them.

I get that it's not nice to be excluded but we all have criteria for who we do and don't want to meet.

I'm fat. I know some don't like that so I make it clear on my profile and let others make up their mind. It doesn't bother me that some people don't want to meet fat people

I have been careful to specify "some" all the way through.

Yes, I am hypersensitive to smoke and nicotine. I'm an extreme case but I have heard others say they have had the same experience. A few others.

All I'm asking is to be able to make an informed decision.

It might help but different people have different levels of sensitivity. I'd disregard anyone else's assessment.

However I might meet a vaper for a social to see, whereas I'd be very unlikely to meet a smoker. I would let them know it might be a problem though.

Though I'd consider non-smoker with a mention in your profile that you vape perfectly reasonable.

Vaping will be a problem for far fewer people than smoking, I'd guess.

"If you don't inhale or exhale smoke then no you aren't a smoker. You are now a vaper, congratulations.

For the purposes of this site I'd say you are a non-smoker. Potential meets don't care whether you are "medically" a smoker, they care whether you smell and taste like one.

Mention the vaping in your profile then everything is disclosed and people can satisfy themselves as to whether you are someone they would like to get dirty with "

Totally agree

"I'm one of those ex-smokers that simply won't be in the same small room as a smoker and certainly won't get vaguely intimate with one but if you have given up then I would state you are an a non-smoker and maybe put a line in about the e-cigs in your profile.

Despite your fantastic dedication to your appearance and cleanliness, you would have probably still smelled of smoke."

It's going to take a while for the smell to leave your skin as it will still be ingrained especially in your hands, best way is to ask a non smoker if they can smell or taste it on you.

I state nom smokers on my profile and I'm very strict about it but I will meet e-cig users.

Well done to you and have fun

The starter kit can be pricy, but I've gone from spending £200 a month on fags to £5 a month on liquid. The only encouragement I need is the extra cash I can spend on other things. Like holidays.

Studies suggest some non-smokers are becoming vapers because of the flavours, the pretty inhalers and because some think it looks cool.

It depends on how heavy a smoker they were, how long they'd smoked, the amount of tar in their brand.

Best case scenario is many months though it is frequently years.

I'm a bit surprised anyone would be put off by it though since it would be totally undetectable (save for perhaps a cough, I'd think). It's like not wanting to meet someone with high cholesterol, gall stones or high blood pressure.

Perfectly valid choices I suppose but they seem a little odd to me.

Nicotine is tasteless and odourless. I can only assume that those who complain of some kind of taste issue when being intimate with nicotine users are tasting some other chemicals they add to make the nicotine 'palatable'.

Some perfumes don't smell very nice and taste awful, or some smell nice but the user is doused in it or its overpowering. The smell of some foods actually come out of your pores. There's a big list of things the hypersensitive could ask for but in the real world a line gets drawn.

If you don't actually smoke, then you're a non smoker. You're not misleading anyone by putting that on your profile. If Fab chooses to add a nicotine user tab in time then act accordingly.

I wouldn't hold your breath though......those who can after having smoked for a few years! (It's just a little joke, wouldn't want to offend the hypersensitive).

Ps. I've never smoked.

It doesn't taste of tobacco but it does taste. Whether thats pure nicotine or not though I am not sure. I haven't encountered it as a pure substance and I don't think I'd want to taste it if I did.

I agree it doesn't smell but I am unconvinced about the claim it's tasteless.

"(S)- Nicotine (C10H14N2) is readily extracted from tobacco roots and stalks that remain after the leaves have been picked for tobacco production and from waste tobacco. It is optically pure when obtained from the tobacco plant, specific rotation (a )25D= -1690 (pure liquid). Nicotine has a bitter taste and a sharp odour."

I've not noticed the smell yet from vapers but the taste is discernible.

Initial research shows I'm not imagining it or tasting additives. I can't post links but you can all use Google.

I don't care about all the extremes which is a point I already made.

Enough people care about size, race, smoking etc that it's only fair to declare them, and read profiles to see if they have other crieria that might make you incompatible.

In the same way it is considerate to turn up not stinking of garlic, onions or BO, to have clean teeth etc.

If someone who claimed to be a non-smoker turned up for a meet with me tasting of nicotine, the meet would go no further. Who wants to waste people's time and have theirs wasted?

My profile is clear about not wanting to meet smokers. Is asking to be able to make an informed decision about smokers or nicotine users so unreasonable? I don't want to meet anyone who chews tobacco either, and that isn't smoking.

So when does Luke class himself as a non smoker?
