heard the arc royal might be on its way but picking up soldiers, or one of the other ships anyway, your right though, they should mobilize the navy and get them home. |

"The government have already arranged for the Royal Navy to step in and bring the stranded british people home and have also made arrangements with Spain for them to be used as a hub."
That ship is only taking specially selected people, chosen by the the British Embassy. You don't think they are going to let just anyone on a warship.
And anyway, I heard we are talking about over 150,000 people. |

That's what I've heard too, although I've heard the cynics also suggest the government are doing it to gain popularity as it apparently isn't even necessary anyway. |

HMS Albion picked up British troops from Santander, in northern Spain, whose return home from Afghanistan was interrupted by the flight ban caused by the volcanic ash cloud.
The ship also picked up around 300 British tourists |

That's harsh - there but for the grace of God go you!!!
Who could of foreseen an act of God like this?
We are talking about people - taxpayers, with families - children, who are all British Citizens in extraordinary circumstances.
Unbelievable!!!! |

I couldn't agree more. They paid their taxes and N.I. like everyone else and if the govt are sending our warships to get them home then at least Cheshire Cat has got something right in his miserable term in office. |

That works on the premise that god exists. These are unusual circumstances and rely on governments working together which, all takes time. |

I'm sure you may be right, but it does sound like an easy cop-out. I don't believe there aren't enough ships out there that the Government couldn't hire. And heard on the radio today, that if the two nieghbouring volcanoes blow (which is a very distinct possibility), the flight ban could last weeks or months |

From what I've read the volcano went on erupting for 2 yrs the last time it went up and the neighbouring volcano is more of a problem as it's erupting more frequently. |
