I'm planning on getting a tattoo in the coming weeks and have decided that I want one on the left hand side of my chest.
I want a small quote but can't decide what to put. Does anyone have any ideas ? I know it should be personal to me but fishing for ideas will be a great help.
Also does anyone have one already and does it hurt having it done there?

I had my first one done for my 49th birthday end of last year. It's on my hip and hardly hurt at all, and I'm a huge baby with a very low pain threshold!
Good luck with finding a design, took me months to find exactly what I wanted. Might add onto it one day |

"Depending on the area depends on the pain and your chest is going to sting like fuck
Oh no. Best have a few rums beforehand then" thats a no no, it thins your blood and most good tattooists won't ink you if they smell it or think you are d*unk |

Yeah, don't do that. I made that mistake when I got a Prince Albert. It bled a lot after. |

The best thing to do is to create your own design or saying. That away no one else has it. As far as pain, depends on the area and the tattoist. If he or she has a light hand then it won't hurt but if they have a heavy hand then get ready for some pain. I have 3 tatts and fixing to get 2 more in the up coming months. Good luck. |

Make sure you research the your tattooist well and ask to see previous work, especially any script they have done. It will be a couple of hours work for them, but you will have to live with it for ever. The old adage of you get what you pay for is also true. Check out epictattoofailure on facebook to see what can go wrong - some of them are hilarious! |

I don't like words, if you choose the wrong font, it can fade and blur really easily, so take advice on the font.
I'm having a chest piece designed at the minute, and in my tattooist's words "welcome to a whole new world of pain"! |

I have text on my left arm - I waited about 6 months before i got it done to make sure I still wanted the words. I have been considering some more text for even longer. Deciding on text after a week seems very hasty particularly as you are seeking inspiration.
Having watched body shock (it may have been called something completely different) I would suggest anything other than "Brian is a twat" |

Oh sweet jesus no! I hate that for it's blandness and the fact that it doesn't exactly stand up to scrutiny.
I am considering "I Still Believe" as it works on several levels

If you do have a quote, even if it is just something in English, like 'don't forget to put the cat out at night' try having it tattooed in either a foreign language, or something like Old English. That way it will add a layer of mystery and can be changed to suit the situation. Ie, if cornered by a load of Derby fans, you can say it is in Latin, but means 'Rams Forever', etc |

"You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig shit, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, 'as greedy as a pig'. "

Lets put aside some myths about tattoos, lm a tattoo artist of 10 years, it makes me laugh at some of the crap people put on here when it comes to tattoos. Ie make sure the tattooist can spell lol
Wtf the stencil is done and should be checked by the client so make sure you can spell too.
Taking pain killers before a tattoo wont help in the slightest.
And drinking before a tattoo wont either in fact if you came into my studio smelling of drink l would not tattoo you.
Drinking will also thin your blood
And you will bleed like a pig so dont eh.
Fact is they all hurt, man up ffs

Never had a tattoo in my life, studied fine art and design for many years and for any tattooist to call theme selves an "artist" is ridiculous in the extreme, to execute someone else's idea or design on someone's body is basically prostitution of ones talents and I say talents in the loosest of terms, basically join the dots for egotiscal idiots who in they're heads are making people's lives better whilst lining they're own pockets, 99% of tatts I've seen are spur of the moment unoriginal emotional statements of a persons desperation for exeptance, not an individual statement, I personally think a woman's skin is infanitely more beautiful than any phrase or doodle by some dickhead, stop getting on the bandwagon and think for yourself, so there! |

You can walk in and get a tattoo removed, my tattooist has a 5 month waiting list. I think more people are getting them then getting them removed. |

Get a grip. You don't have to get a tattoo. It's a personal choice and suppose anyone with their ears pierced would also fall into your fad category who are lining other peoples pockets. Granted there are some horrendous tats out there and many that people regret (a friend of mine loves Disney and has several shit ones) but I have other friends who have some amazing ink on them. You say tattoo artists are prostituting themselves? So are people who provide any service doing the same? Don't think so.
We are all individuals and we all have the right to do what we want to our own bodies. There is a program on channel 4 called my tattoo he'll ( I think) and it makes compelling viewing with views from both sides. And yes there are terrible tattooists on it who are tattooing people in Spain while passed up and most of these are absolutely awful. But the other hand you see people getting them done in the UK who have put in a lot of thought into what they want and they look good. I had one done a few years ago and designed it myself and is personal to me. I met and discussed my idea with my tattooist prior and suggest any one getting one does the same.
And can't wait to see pics of your sleeves OP |

Steel heels yes she absolutely loves them. She has 9 of them. My 5 year old kid loves them too. But she is a big girl and the tattoos are tiny and don't sit straight on her ( she is sexy though so don't shout at me as I said she is big, just thought I'd say that before anyone told me off for saying she is big) if the tats where of a proper proportion and straight they might look a bit better. But as I said before its peoples own choices what they get. And I would never tell her that I don't like them as it's her personal choice and if she likes them that's all that matters. |

But as I said before its peoples own choices what they get. And I would never tell her that I don't like them as it's her personal choice and if she likes them that's all that matters.
Most people think mine look shit. I love mine. People can say it to my face, it doesn't bother me.

"Was thinking about getting a tattoo for my 50th. Another step in growing old disgracefully "
We was told by our tattooist that they hurt more as you get older |

"I have been considering some more text for even longer.
Only God can judge me?!?!?
Oh sweet jesus no! I hate that for it's blandness and the fact that it doesn't exactly stand up to scrutiny.
I am considering "I Still Believe" as it works on several levels
Is that a reference to Santa or the X- Files?
"
Neither! It's a frank Turner song but it works on so many other levels too |

Get something that means something to you sod what everyone else thinks it's your body your choice and your the one who has to live with it so make sure your 100% before you do it also just so you know don't drink before as it thins the blood and you tend to bleed more so not a great plan also that side of your chest is the most painful so I'm told as it's the side of your heart and had a lot more pain receptors and alike so stings a little but to be homes most tattoos don't hurt that much
Good luck and enjoy |

It definitely depends on the tattoo artist on how painful it's gonna be. My first tattoo was on my back when I was 18 it was bit sore but not to bad, my last one was a clockwork heart obviously on my chest an I almost fell asleep as I was getting it done |

"I'm planning on getting a tattoo in the coming weeks and have decided that I want one on the left hand side of my chest.
I want a small quote but can't decide what to put. Does anyone have any ideas ? I know it should be personal to me but fishing for ideas will be a great help.
Also does anyone have one already and does it hurt having it done there?
Will"
If you need to ask people on a website for ink ideas you really shouldn't be getting a tattoo.... And nope the chest doesn't hurt (much) lol |

"you shouldnt get a tattoo. you will regret it.
Why?
"
Because you dont know what you want and you are scared of a little pain. If you really wanted a tattoo you would know exactly what you wanted and the pain wouldnt be an issue. |
