Nobody to delegate putting the bin out to.
There's not much I miss being single.
Someone to go out to eat with occasionally. An extra pair of hands for DIY or whatever when needed. Cuddles and sex sometimes.

Before anyone thinks I've gone soft what I actualy meant was:
"Getting home from work and chatting with a glass of wine while cooking."
Someone to cook me dinner.
"Showering/bath with someone else."
Someone to scrub my back.

I could not agree more! I love my independence and doing what I want when I want without having to consult anyone. I know you can get lonely from time to time but you can be more lonely in a loveless relationship!

Downsides of being single: no one to clean the stairs for me; regular sex; no single supplement on holidays. They would still need to live in their own place though.

When I left my ex he used to try and make me feel guilty by saying if something happened to him then no-one would know or care.
I used to dismiss it as him just being his typical manipulative self but actually in a way he had a point...oh well

This happened to my fatherinlaw 4weeks ago. not a stroke but he fell in the hallway, he has parkinsons and was on floor for 18 hours till my oh found him |

Wow, that's cheerful! I just don't entertain such fears. Shit happens and I have no intention of changing my lifestyle for what ifs as I enjoy it too much. And my mobile phone goes upstairs with me anyway. It's usually within reach. No worries. |

based on my marriage i miss nothing about it, didn't have regular sex, didn't have anyone to talk to, didn't have anyone to share things with, get the violin out i know
been single 6 years now and they really have been the happiest 6 years of my adult life, i miss nothing about being with someone and have no intentions of ever being in a relationship again

I think it's evident that people tend to fall into one of two categories.
Those who are happy alone and those who need someone to share things with on a daily basis.
I'm not good in relationships. I don't like the person I become. I never get lonely and need my alone time. When I've been with someone I have ended up resenting their constant presence in my life on a daily basis.
However, I know many people who cannot bear to be alone. I do not understand this need they have. And they do not understand the need for being alone which I have.
Neither of us is wrong. We're just different. And I accept that. Most of my friends and family accept my lifestyle choices. But there are a couple who don't and who insist that what I need is a 'good man'. Sometimes they have tried to set me up with someone they considered suitable. Often with someone I find utterly unattractive and in one case actually repulsive. When this has been explained to them their response was something along the lines of 'well this guy is better than no guy at all'. This really irritates me. Though the last time it happened I was quite assertive about it and they've not tried to set me up since. |
