There are a couple of programmes around autism that are a difficult watch for me. Challenging TV can be good TV though.

I thought you were going to talk about some people stammering when they get nervous during a meet lol But seriously, yeah it can be terrible. saw a similar documentary about people who suffer from tourettes. Actually it was more of a catch up on two indivuals who had been in a previous documentary and while both had moving stories to tell both in some ways were quite inspirational and not as depressing as you might think.

That's not to say that the condition didn't come with it's share of problems but the way these people coped with these afflictions and how they didn't let them effect their lives too greatly was incredibly moving.

Yeah, the door was open for the thread to go one of two ways and I took the serious road - d'oh. Was too tired for a witty one liner though. Invariably I think these programmes show it's as much other people's judgements that are as big an issue. I too saw that programme and one of the guys' attitude was awesome - not in your face but accepting.

One of my boys has autism hence not always easy to watch at the time but I'm always glad I did. I don't get offended when I hear jokes about autistic people or similar - the world can't stop and I have laughed at stand ups for years - they have to get their material at someones expense.

To try and ease back on to a more humourous path - Debz, you sure it wasn't an Open All Hours re-run. Nurse Gladddddddyyyyyssss and all that.

Gareth Gates' new single was dropped after he decided to re-record the Beach Boys classic, Barbara-Ann. The record company released a statement saying that CDs were still not technologically advanced enough to record 16 hours of continuous music.

I have struggled with this all my life

I like to think I have it under control and as such, many of you people who have met me would not know about it.

I went through my childhood without any problems...always been too big to bully, lol... It does raise it's head on occaisions though, but I usually just make a joke about it

I didn't stammer as such but for a time went through a phase when all of a sudden I could not say a specific word. Totally random, all I had to do was think of another word that meant the same and then I could carry on with the sentence.

It dissapeared as quickly as it started.

It's curious that when the condition was first named that they named it with a word that starts with 'st' and has a double 'm' in it. Same as 'lisp', what brainbox thought to call it that!

You got away lightly then! One kid at my school didn't get it so easy. I've always had an understanding for such things due to my mum being a speech therapist. Felt so sorry for this guy at school on the first day, his surname was Williams so when he had to stand up and say his name he got stuck on 'Willi willi willi willi' and of course the pressure from the laughter of others at that point just made it worse for him! Kids can be so cruel

He's past it now, so we can look back at that moment with a few smiles but it must have been torture.

I stammered lots as a child when put on the spot to speak up. I occasionally still do it and cant get a word out. They start with certain letters for me.

I was teased terribly but learnt to control it more as an adult.

my daughter does it if she is put on the spotlight so to speak so she just hides away a bit for school plays etc but a lot of children do get bullied for it and its frankly cruel i know a lot of people who have been affected with it throughout their lives and i feel so sorry for them xx

The lassie that was on last night was very pretty and a model.

She was good to look at - but her speech was dreadful.

Good on her for being so brave and goingon a prog like that - there where she was stuttering every sentance she tried to make.

It made me want her to hutty up and spit it out-- so god knows how she felt herself - knowing what she wanted to say and not being able.

I admire all people with all trheir differnt qualities xxx

Well seeing as we're talking about afflictions i might as well share mine. I suffer from Dyspraxia. I won't go in to too much detail about it but information can be found on the interney for those who would be interested to look up stuff about it.

It's effected me all my life and it wasn't until at the age of 32 last year that I discovered I had it. It's sort of linked to dyslexia but effects some of my motor skills like my co-ordination for example. I can't fold my clothes and it wasn't till I was eleven or twelve that I couldn't tie my show laces.

I can't drive because I have poor concentration and my mind can wander quite easily. My short term memory can be pretty bad at times. Not to mention that I don't cope well in social situations where there are large groups of people and can start talking about random subjects off the top of my head which can surprise people. A lot of people used to think I was werido for doing it but now I know why I do it.

But the way I look at it there's worse things I can be suffering from. Only just lasy year I lost a cousin who was 24 to liver cancer. It's something like that which really puts the problems you have in to perspective. I may have an affliction but it can be more easily helped and at least I have my health. Dyspraxia now that I know I have it doesn't need to be the end of the world as do so many other conditions out there that effect so many people on a daily basis. It's just good to know there is help out there where you can get it and I'm not alone.
