Angus & Findhorn

on the Jeremy Vine show today they were discussing the shortage of Engineers in the UK. Think the figure was about 61k

there was a great young lady on who has just completed an apprentice with BAE, she spoke very well.

I'm more a scientist then engineer but I have done a little fire engineering, which is of absolutely no use if you want guidance on mechanical issues.

"What s the little one trying to do,? "

he's advanced in Mathematics and grasps concepts quickly. He was fascinated by the engines at the Science museum and I didn't have enough knowledge to explain things to him. He likes Science and Space too. I can't inspire him any more

Go on ebay and put Model Engine in the search bar, some good kits on there to build, some may be to difficult for a 6 year old but worth a look

Have a search on google for a local club.

Lots of guys still make steam engines etc.

Model railway clubs are full of guys that are only to eager to pass on the wealth of knowledge they have.

Also any steam railway group in your area, are always looking for new people to help out.

You could also look at model steam engines (Mamod etc) obviously they would need supervision

Have a look for your local STEM club. There are more and more events and school workshops getting held around the country toencourage more people into science, engineering and maths . You don't necessarily need to be able to explain it ... Just support development and let them explore

He'll need a good grasp of maths and physics as the basis for any engineering career. There is a national shortage of engineers (especially women) so hence the adverts etc on tv. Some excellent apprenticeships available or he could go the academic route. Either way we will always need more engineers.
