Always, I repeat always buy something!!
if it's a 'trap' then you've out foxed her & if it isn't well what's not to like about receiving a pressie. Wouldn't go to mad, just a small gesture though |

Ask Admiral Ackbar
Bet me to it
Fast on the draw, or if I see a three headed monkey, quick on the drawers.
Beat me too! "
Does this mean if I'd been wearing a pair of skis rather than slippers I'd have got a gold? |

Anyone else think that such as Valentine's Day is far too overcommercialised these days?
Just say a sincere and heartfelt "I love you" at an appropriate moment. That should suffice.

Depends if you believe her?...
Is she smart enough to trick you?..
And are you prepared to take the risk?..

It's far too commercialised for us, we prefer to spend the day together, have a nice meal, then a nice cosy early night for some sexy fun and cuddles..it's supposed to be about loving each other not buying things ! ...

"Apparently my boyfriend doesnt approve of Valentine's day.....should have spent that money on myself rather than him then shouldn't I!"
Neither do I to be honest. It's all commercialised. You should show your loved ones you love them all year round. Not just on one day of the year because that's when some retailer says you should. I mean what would a girl rather. A guy who doesn't acknowledge their partner all year round, but goes overboard on valatines day or someone who shows their partner love and affection with some romantic gestures thrown in. All year round? |

I didn't realise there were only two choices.
I suggest a third option:
A man who showers his woman with affection and loving gestures all year round including joining in the lovefest that is Valentine's Day.
As for the commercialism of Valentine's Day, it's no different to Mother's Day, Christmas, Birthdays, Easter, they are all traditions that a lot of people enjoy that also happen to keep a lot of small (and large) businesses afloat. I've had a couple of retail businesses and without the "special occasions" during the year I couldn't have paid my bills.
So I say support your local businesses and show your loved one you appreciate them at the same time! (and buy me some bloody jewellery you git!) |

"If she has told you not to get anything then dont ....... honestly "
I agree dont get anything. I don't agree with playing games or setting "traps". If you get her something, only do it because you want to not because you feel obligated to do so. |

Yes!!! My sister said that to her husband in 1999...and the sap fell for it. She mentioned it in conversation yesterday!
Himself has never celebrated Valentines. Personally I think it's a load of commercial bollocks, but this is our first together and I've *HINTED* it would be in his best interest to not rock up tonight empty handed after I've taken the day off to prepare dinner for tonight! |

I love valentines day, it's the first busy day of the year after the post Christmas kipper. I've always worked it but tonight I'm out with the lads. She knows I love her anyway. |

That is a cop out, you could say the same about Xmas, do you just say 'Merry Christmas' and not buy your love one any presents?
Yes it's a TRAP, a big one, get her all the stuff she is secretly hoping to get. You will then probably get everything you want in return. |

Our very first Valentines day together we went to a local restaurant, where
1 The menu was limited for 50% more cost than usual,
2 So many tables had been squeezed in that the staff had a hell of a job serving and kept knocking against chairs
3 Eventually the obvious happened and J ended up with a tray of drinks in her lap.
We and obviously everyone else present blacked that small local business afterwards, they were closed down later that year after about six months of no customers.
Now we limit it to a card, a home cooked meal with an early night for the best gift ever.
There are 364 other days we can buy each other gifts, or go out for a date night. |
