Discrete

individually separate and distinct.

"speech sounds are produced as a continuous sound signal rather than discrete units"

Discreet

careful and prudent in one's speech or actions, especially in order to keep something confidential or to avoid embarrassment.

Hope this clears up any confusion

depends on which discreet/discrete he means, both are spelt correct depending on which context he means, however if he's talking about peoples spelling on here, ie must be discreet then he has spelt it wrong

Homophones are often confused. There/their/they're, etc. As long as it makes sense within the context of the message I don't bother about it. It's only when it looks like a chimp has been bashing the keyboard does it bother me about people's writing.

To people who have nothing better to worry about? If a man can fuck I don't care if he writes with a stubby pencil in txt spk

Wouldn't it be even better if said man could fuck AND had a modicum of culture and domain of grammar and spelling?

I've fucked a fair few educated men,if any of them had said modicum I would have kicked them out of bed for being pretentious. Same goes for the word soupçon. There's a line that should be observed. An observation by me : posh men like the word cunt and do very dirty things sexually "

Luckily I wasn't in bed with you when I used that word!

The 'c' word is appropriate in some contexts, but I prefer not to use it here in the forums...

"is it me, a reasonable standard of English isn't too much to hope for! Thank you, rant over.

Another one is 'clique'. Most people spell and pronounce it as 'click'.

"

very good point!

Yes, it would!

Perhaps I am a snob but I will decline meets or not reply to messages if poor English or txtspk are used.

I need my mind to be stimulated as well as my body and, rightly or wrongly, I tend to suspect those unable to use English correctly will not be capable of that.

It's also an indication that someone pays attention to detail, or doesn't.

Well to be quite honest . If someone was not interested in me because I put their instead of there . I don't think I would really want to meet that person anyway

Yes, of course there are more important things in life but that doesn't mean that spelling and grammar aren't important too. Too who ?

We don't mind poor spelling as long as the attempt is obviously there, and a good conversational element is present. People often write how they talk, and for us, that can be quite telling. Short, staccato sentences raise a warning flag as an indication of the person's possible lack of conversational skills. If they have a huge cock, all is forgiven

I don't and never would judge someone by their ability to spell but it does make me smile sometimes when the word defiantly is used instead of definitely - it can change the whole context of the sentence

Cannot abide text speak tho!

A few minor mistakes is different to a load of semi-literate nonsense that they clearly made no effort whatsoever with.

I get messages sometimes that look as though the sender smashed his hand down on the keyboard a few times and clicked send!

Most 'phones and computers can correct spelling though, (well, ok, 'phones have variable success), so I can't understand why words like professional and accommodate are so frequently misspelled.
