Discrete
individually separate and distinct.
"speech sounds are produced as a continuous sound signal rather than discrete units"
Discreet
careful and prudent in one's speech or actions, especially in order to keep something confidential or to avoid embarrassment.
Hope this clears up any confusion

"is it me, a reasonable standard of English isn't too much to hope for! Thank you, rant over.errr...'Discreet....?"
depends on which discreet/discrete he means, both are spelt correct depending on which context he means, however if he's talking about peoples spelling on here, ie must be discreet then he has spelt it wrong |

Do you mean discreet ?
If not , then then your use of a word associated with applied mathematics has little relevance in the swinging world .
Oh dear , oh dear .....

Homophones are often confused. There/their/they're, etc. As long as it makes sense within the context of the message I don't bother about it. It's only when it looks like a chimp has been bashing the keyboard does it bother me about people's writing. |

If you are looking for a reasonable standard of English maybe you should know that sentences should start with a capital letter.
So in all probability, yes, it is you. |

"What does it matter which is correct its not likely to be the deciding factor on whether or not you get a shag! "
Actually, that's not necessarily true - if two men are equal in all other ways but one has poor spelling and grammar, I would choose the one with the more correct use of the English language |

"Discrete in science is the opposite of continuous: something that is separate; distinct; individual. Thank you Wikipedia!"
Scientific definitions are often different, the one that usually catches people out is "theory"
I hate it when people misuse that. |

OP, with all the troubles with the economy, politics, weather and human tragedy in the world, if all you have to worry about is how another person spells a particular word, then i feel you dont really have much in life to get upset over.

Discrete: seperate, distinguishable, individual.

Yes, it would!
Perhaps I am a snob but I will decline meets or not reply to messages if poor English or txtspk are used.
I need my mind to be stimulated as well as my body and, rightly or wrongly, I tend to suspect those unable to use English correctly will not be capable of that.
It's also an indication that someone pays attention to detail, or doesn't. |

We don't mind poor spelling as long as the attempt is obviously there, and a good conversational element is present. People often write how they talk, and for us, that can be quite telling. Short, staccato sentences raise a warning flag as an indication of the person's possible lack of conversational skills. If they have a huge cock, all is forgiven |

I don't and never would judge someone by their ability to spell but it does make me smile sometimes when the word defiantly is used instead of definitely - it can change the whole context of the sentence

A few minor mistakes is different to a load of semi-literate nonsense that they clearly made no effort whatsoever with.
I get messages sometimes that look as though the sender smashed his hand down on the keyboard a few times and clicked send!
Most 'phones and computers can correct spelling though, (well, ok, 'phones have variable success), so I can't understand why words like professional and accommodate are so frequently misspelled. |
