Not normally one for a rant but took my lad for an "adventure" with a short train ride. He's 2, never been on a train, mega excited. At that age it's the simple things.

Train from Beeston to Derby was 20 minutes late. So not a great start. Hot choc at Derby station, and all ready to head back when there's the dreaded announcement. The 3.40 to Nottingham has been cancelled and will terminate at Derby because it's over 30 minutes late already.

I knew the railway system in this great country of ours wasn't the best but to pick a random day and have a delay and a cancellation is ridiculous. I know the weather isn't great but it's not that bad round here.

It is no wonder the country grinds to a halt with the weather we've had in the sw and se and I truely feel for those affected by the weather especially as in an area that's not been that affected we can't manage to run basic services.

Anyway, smiles here as we're now on the bus and my boy hasn't been on a bus either so he's made up!

How about taking him to see the airplanes taking off and landing at East Mids Airport?

That's a good one...his face as an express train whizzed past was a picture. Can imagine what it'd be like at a plane taking off!
