I think that should depend on the age of your children. In my case my children are adults aged 25-30 and I would hope that if I met someone who made me happy they would accept that irrespective of his age - that said I would not date someone as young as them but I would certainly consider someone in their mid 30s if we were a good match!

To be honest I don't think my kids would approve of anyone I took home, that's why I've been single since I split with their dad 6 years ago

Yes, I'd date someone who was slightly younger. Not too much young though, 8 or 9 year age difference would be ok. All depends on the person I suppose!

I don't think I would date anyone that I felt stood out and would make people look, if I was with a guy where people had to keep asking if he was my lover or my son that would bother me

but if you really loved someone you would forget about the age gap. The only time I refer to jays age is on here when a relevant thread comes up, never mention it apart from when I tell him he's going senile

Younger yes, but not young enough to be my son - age is not just a number. Would you go for someone of 88 say? Methinks I have proved a point

A seaside town near you!

I seem to get on a lot better with guys younger than me but I'd draw the line at under 40. My daughter wouldn't be too happy and I think deep down if it was a relationship I'd always worry that they'd eventually move on to someone younger

If he was a foster father then yes.

Keeping the subject to consensual adults is advisable.

Teasing apart tho that can be a serious issue in large age gap relationships and one easily overlooked early on. I have a good friend whose husband is 20 years her senior and now in his early 70s and suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's. She loves him very much but is struggling and misses the affection and sexual side of their relationship which he no longer has an interest in. I'm not saying that it should stop anyone having such a relationship, only that it is a consideration that not all of us think of when entering into one. Obviously ill health can be a risk regardless of age but the odds are higher if one partner is significantly older.

I always think about the future when looking at guys much younger

If I dated a guys 20 years younger than me in 30 years time when he was still only 49 and I was pushing 70 and could no longer keep up and do all the things he wanted would he still be interested in me?

I probably should have stated this on the age gap thread, but I would worry about a very much younger adult and a 20+ year age gap. Older adults have, if they have a mind to, learned how to manipulate.

I understand completely what you are saying, when I realised we where more than good friends I did take these factors into account. You can become I'll or die at any age. I could pop my clogs before him, but I now know if anything happened I could look after him, but also I would still be free to have sex with whoever but I probably wouldn't by then. I would sooner spend lesser time with my soulmate than longer with someone whose not. You never know who your going to fall in love with

Can't argue with that, my soulmate is almost ten years my junior and has a potential health issue which may impact on us in the future, I would not change things unless it was to allow him good health.
