And if 90% of your family where going would you emigrate to Oz. or would you consider at the ripe old age of forty something. You would be too old to start over?

I'd not go. Australia seems nice and did produce Steve Hughes, a mighty fine comedian (he says he's a shit Australian as he can't do sport or racism). I'd just go and visit every so often

Emigrate*, your skills are in high demand over there. A great country with a string future.

*nothing against you personally.

It's just such an upheaval, my eldest daughter is home, after 3yrs out there. She has come back with her partner, and had a beautiful baby boy... They are planning on going back, when he's about 8mnths...desperate for us to go to. My other daughter says she will go if I do. She says it would be a wonderful life for my five year old... But I would be leaving my eldest lad behind! The softest of the bunch! dilemma!!

The only thing I regret about my family emigrating to Australia was splitting people up, but that's already done in your case. You will probably be needing to spend time here and Australia to see enough of everyone you love, so ask yourselves which country you would rather live in and which you would rather visit?

(p.s. go to Australia!)

Mind you, it's currently on fire.

And on their weather maps, temperatures, they've recently introduced two new colour bands for temps of over 50 degress C.

When you go, take some proper beer and you'll be instantly popular.

the cost of living has definitely gone up in Oz but it has here too.i think Sydney is probably the most expensive city to live in.

tbh the younger you are the easier it is to emigrate so if you're in your 40's I'd say go for it sooner rather than later. x

We emigrated the year I turned 5. My parents wanted a better life for their children and that's what I believe we had. It's a great country for kids, especially if they love being outside. The education system is good, the healthcare is good, the people are friendly and good natured and there are a lot of well paid job opportunities.

Seems like all you need is to persuade your other son to go too

In 25 I only saw 6 snakes, and that was out in the bush. You're unlikely to come across one unless you go to a reptile centre

Can't say the same for spiders I'm afraid, but most of the ones you see are pretty harmless or at least they aren't aggressive so if you leave them alone they won't hunt you down and sting you to death

The beasts most likely to bite you are ants and mossies. Non poisonous but the ant bites hurt like fuck and the mossie bites itch like a bastard!

Rent out your home here, rent there for a year or two - if you like it, stay. That's what my friends did, and they love it.
