Light Bulb :-(
Jump to: Newest in thread
In my bathroom the light fitting takes four small screw in bulbs.
It has four glass shades.
Bulbs are removed by clockwise threading.
I'm operating on one bulb and decided to replace the dead ones.
Two came out okay. One is stuck. I got a firm grip and the bugger exploded in my fingers , glass all over the floor.
So ...... there is now nothing to hold onto SO ...... how do I get the fucking thing out.
Thankyou. |

you need the power off and a towel to press inside the shattered bulb, position your fingers on the top edge , wear a glove, press in slightly and using friction turn anti clockwise to remove.
Plan B get some other daft bugger to get it out |

"To add to the unfinished words of the posters above - don't go shoving metal in there without turning your leccy off.
Your blue rinse will be like a Mohican. "
Either that or my tits'll light up like Christmas. |

When trying to remove a screw in bulb remains............
Try moving the bulb anticlockwise just a fraction, then clockwise, keep rocking it back and forth like this for a while....
It will gradually work itself loose....
Dont try and just unscrew it in one go......
Good luck! |

"Cut a potato in half, shove into the protruding remains and twist?
Electric on or off?
I've used pliers to do it before. "
I thought potatoes were electric too? I seem to remember running something off a potato at school a thousand years ago.

"Can you catch one of the metal edges with pliers (or something similar). That worked for me"
yes best way to do it.
if you not got room to do that you need up glue something on it so you can get hold of it. |

Right for tight, left for loose... |

"Not sure about the potato thing...bit dangerous in case there's any potato left in there when the power goes back on BOOM you'll have to replace the bulb again! "
look it up on Google. It's a well known tip..or so I thought. The light bulb comes out attached to the potato |

"I can do rocking Abi .... I did rocking O level.
There's NOTHING there to rock."
Is it a screw type or bayonet? You can usually see the edge of the metal where it would have joined the glass, you need to be able to grab the edge. You'll probably need to force the pliers into the gap between the holder and the remains of the bulb, that's why long nose pliers are best, less forcing. The metal should bend in towards the centre and give you something to grip whilst twisting, if it's a bayonet type build you'll need to push and twist.
When you put the new bulbs in don't do them up too tight. It's easier to retighten then get a stuck one out, as you are well aware |

Sounds like a good tip if there is enough glass left to grip. |
