A motorist in Bradford gets a parking ticket whilst queuing at a red traffic light.

Does anyone ever get sacked from Councils for being fucking useless?

The Council confirmed that they did check all images before issuing the ticket. Oh yeah.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It's the targets the councils set the traffic wardens.

I am challenging a ticket where the PCN was slapped on the screen immediately above the location of the parking ticket on the dashboard. The ticket was then obscured from easy view by the PCN!

Hopefully in a few years most of what civil servants 'do' will be privatised - more efficient and less costly - bring it on. Z

Its bad if it happened but after having seen the driving and parking in Bradford I can believe someone just left their car in the middle of the road.

People who work for Local Government are not Civil Servants. Moreover I would respectively suggest that your comments are unfounded.

If you're going to make such wide sweeping comments then at least have the courage and conviction to leave on your follow on posts in response.

Civil servants are people who work for HMRC, DVLA, DEFRA, UKBA, the police, CPS, MOD, MOJ (ministry of justice) all places like that, which are controlled directly by the government. Councils are under local authority so they are very different they are controlled by the government but not directly. Plus councils arent covered under anything in the civil service, like pay, pensions, maternity, leave so on and so on. they sort their own things out according to their own boroughs and areas. I hope that helps.

My sister got a ticket for going through a red light...there was a picture of her car and the line which she had not crossed...what was interesting was the speed recorded on the photo...0mph...I encouraged her to challenge it and unsurprisingly, she heard nothing more...hard to go through a red light when you're stationary...

As an ex-civil servant it amazes me when people slag off the people who are trying to help them. Privitisation is always quoted as making things better. The reality, as I have seen in many departments, is the opposite as profit is put before everything else. However mention privatising the NHS and there is a public outcry! You can't privatise our beloved NHS-it's a government organisation so what's the difference? Personally I am against Privitisation as usually it is the government friends who win the big contracts.

Oh and council employees are not civil servants. They are employed by the local authority not directly by government agencies.

So you would trust a private company to deal with your tax affairs, because all they will care about is meeting their targets on calls and getting their bonus. Your tax will be messed up so it would most likely end up you paying more tax due to their cock up, i dont think that would go down well with yourself will it.

Question .....

The driver was parked ( he says in a traffic queue at red lights ) on the words BUS STOP inside the lines that denote a bus parking bay.

Are people supposed to LEAVE them clear as we do yellow boxes or junctions when traffic is slowing ?

I'd trust a private company for most things - lets not forget the massive cock up the tax office made not that long ago with family tax credits - oh and which public sector department recently wasted literally hundreds of thousands of our pounds in an aborted new computer system? If you work for a private company you're accountable - if you work in the public sector you're not - very generalised but pretty accurate! Z

•Arts Council: Gave a £95,000 grant to artists in Brighton for “Skip”, a rubbish dumpster outlined with yellow lights

•Crawley Council: Spent £5,070 on 12,200 hot drinks from vending machines for council employees, when the equivalent number of tea bags would have cost just £200

•Department for International Development: Spent £21.2 million on a road maintenance project in Bangladesh, later pulled due to “fiduciary irregularities” after it emerged that less than 10% had actually been spent on roads

•Durham Council: Funded a £12,000 clothing allowance to allow councillors to wear “Geordie Armani”

•Hull Council: Spent £40,000 on a concert in honour of the councillor who is Lord Mayor this year

•Ministry of Defence: Paid £22 for light bulbs that are normally 65p

•Prison Service: Paid £720,000 to professional actors for role playing that is aimed at helping inmates become employed

•Scottish Government: Signed a £1.4 million 4-year contract for taxis for civil servants in Edinburgh – despite staff being told to use buses

•Stoke-on-Trent Council: Spent £330,000 to pay for redundancy packages and subsequently rehiring 25 members of staff

I know someone that used to work for the local authority and believe it or not they were "entitled " to 20 days a year "sick" with full pay! So guess what everyone did? Correct they all took an extra 20 days off "sick" which most working types would call " holiday" . In simple terms they were getting 45 days off a year with full pay !!

No point leaving it clear, as the bus could not get in it without going over the top of the car leaving the gap. The bus waits, just like we do.

That isn't entirely correct, what it wold mean is that should sick leave be taken, then you would be paid for those days. It doesn't mean that everyone would take that leave. You would still have to provide a doctors note after the first 7 days and be subject to sickness meetings in line with their sickness policy.

I get paid sick leave too, full pay for 24 weeks and then half pay, it doesn't mean I could take it every year tho as id never be in work.

The absolute best one I heard was about a government building who had a big overhaul and several people were allocated an office but no work - they'd slipped through the net as they should have been made redundant or moved but they hadn't been so for nearly a year - yep - a year - they all trooped in to the office each day - did nothing and went home! How on earth could any one do that? Inept management and morally corrupt employees. Z

I work in the public sector and I'm accountable not only on several levels within and outside of my organisation but also to the professional body with which I'm registered...

We've got stationery that will last another 5 years- we've already had about 10 years use out of it - we didn't steal anything - however - Steve was working in a government building years ago and when they were refurbing they chucked out all the storage cupboards complete with tons of stationery - they were simply too lazy to empty the cupboards - not their money - not their companies money - it's money that's been grown in the money orchard! just remembered this one too - in the same building a woman kept starting fires in the toilets - everyone knew who it was but did they take her to task? Nope. They installed hand dryers and removed the bins! Problem solved! Z

Reacting to the Chancellor’s speech today, Jonathan Isaby, Chief Executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance said:

"Despite all the talk of hard truths, politicians and bureaucrats continue to spend nearly half of our national income. Far too much taxpayers' money is wasted and our public services are not delivering value. If the Chancellor wants to cut taxes to give families and businesses a badly needed break, then he has to get a grip on wasteful spending.”
