Hated asparagus with a passion - unfortunately I used to live in an area of Germany where they grow white asparagus (have not see this variety overhere, does anyone known whether it is available in the UK??) so it was served rather a lot during its season.
I grew to love it and today it is one of my favourites.. so positive outcome that mum made us eat it...

Pretty much everything I was a fussy so and so as a kid and wouldn't eat, for example, ham, sausages, most veg, any fish, sausage rolls or anything of that type, potatoes except roast or mash...the list went on. I remember ordering margarita pizza with no tomato because I hated them. I'm good now though and eat what I'm given |

"My mother used to spoon feed me malt, absolutely revolting stuff.
Also tripe gives me the boak."
Oh yuk...you just brought back my worse childhood nightmare.........malt extract......my mother used to shovel great spoonfuls of the ghastly stuff down our throats every morning...forty years on and just the thought of it is enough to make me heave |

My mother worked friday and saturday nights and my brother and I dreaded the weekend when my father was in charge of the meals.
ALWAYS a choice of: heated spam on sandwiches or battered spam and chips or pork luncheon meat which is just spam under another name which was always cooked and slapped on bread
Strangely as soon as we could we spent all weekend at our mates houses never eating at home.

"Why do Mums try and disguise or hide food that their kids hate, especially in mashed potato?
It does'nt work...........ever
"
You are so right and I promised myself I will dissuade my children from doing it to their kids one day. |
