No, nobody on here and this isn't a single male bashing thread.
My mum was spoken to very rudely by a male member of staff in a well known DIY shop today.
Why? She asked him where to find an awl.
First he pretended not to know what she meant, so she described it. Oh, he huffed , you mean a bradawl. How do you expect me to help you find something if you don't know what it's called.
She wouldn't let me go and find him to firstly ask if a bradawl is, in fact, not a type of awl and how many other types of awl they sell. And secondly to tell him where to stick the aforementioned awl, pointy end first.
I wonder what would have happened if a man had asked. Not the above, I am willing to bet.

It always seems to be male employees in DIY, computer and motoring stores that feel the need to act superior to women. Not all of them, of course, but some are absolute shits.
I know more about computers than most of the staff put together in some computer stores and yet they still try to treat me like a stupid woman, to begin with.
I'm sure there are pompous unhelpful women in some stores too but I don't seem to encounter that, personally, being female. |

we went to look at a 2yr old car at a dealership for Mrs surrey, explained to the 'salesman' who addressed me and not both it seemed that the car was for the lady etc ..
got keys which he tried to hand to me till i reminded him the car was for the lady..
test drive done started to do paperwork which he then asked me to sign the credit agreement despite being told its a joint account..
reminded him politely that the OH is capable as a professional in her own right to sign the papers..
some not all blokes in retail do seem to have blinkers on or tend to see females as easy prey if picking something up, especially builders merchants..

Once upon a time I bought an Impreza. Two days after I'd bought it, the exhaust began blowing so I took it back to the dealership.
The centre section needed to be replaced and there was no problem with them agreeing to do it. However, when I asked them if the replacement section would be a decat, the same as on the car already we ran into problems.
The car was an RB5 WR Sport, which had a performance upgrade called PPP. It had a decatted centre section. I knew this with complete certainty as I'd done my research before buying the car.
However, the guy I was dealing with informed me that that model of car didn't have a decat centre section and no cars of that age did, as standard. I told him it was a PPP'd car and I was absolutely certain it did.
Lo and behold, when the holed section was removed, with about 6 members of staff now gathered around to watch, it was discovered that it was a decat.
Cue one member of staff suddenly realising he had something to do and stalking off.

As a retail manager I would be mortified if a member of my team spoke to any customer that way, secondly I would want to know about it. Send a letter of complaint in no customer m or f should feel uncomfortable in a store. It's your money and you have the choice where to spend it, let the manger know. |

Being a car nut and knowing my stuff I've hada few similar experiences... Best one was when I was starting a new job... The trainee was talking down to me as a woman while I was waiting for the boss. Trying to act all superior about my car ... When the boss got there he introduced me as the new mechanic.. cue one very embarrassed trainee.
And rb5 is still on my list of cars to own along with the wr1 lol x but not many decent ones left and most people have changed the wheels x |

I agree with the majority of your post however having worked in retail I can confirm that some customers should feel uncomfortable In a store. Especially when giving sexist or racist abuse to staff.
I was lucky enough when a lot younger to have a manager who was not scared to tell certain customers what they could do with themselves and when they threatened to go to the competitor up the street phoned said competitor and ensured they were not able to get in there either.
It is not about men or women, customers or staff. Pricks are pricks and should be treated so. |

I went into a well known shoe shop before christmas, the sales assistant was female and a right cunt, a cunt is a cunt no matter what their gender, needless to say I complained to the manager, and wasn't too quiet about it either, I purchased the shoes from another store. |
