"I really think there ought to be subsidised/free sports facilities for everyone. The nations health is important.
Loads of free outdoor gyms were put into parks for people to use.
"
Were they? Wish I'd seen one. There are some really cool ones in the Eastern Block. Ever seen pics of the hydropark in Kiev? |

Who wants to use them in this weather? Manchester at any time of year is hardly Venice Beach.
They should have done some market research before wasting taxpayers' money. |

My parents use their local ones all the time and they are always busy. There is an instructor there for a few hours a week who is very helpful. They say there is a real mix of people that use them. |

There is a gym in Plymouth called the heartbeat gym, it is tied into the local hospitals for people who have had a stroke or heart attack so is reserved for them in the mornings.
Membership £5 a year then £1.50 a session.
I though that was a bit of a bargain. |

Have a look on your local authority website. Where I am in London I have three close enough to walk to and they get used well on nice days with people queuing for the different bits of equipment.
I can't do the leg press on the pull down thingies as I am too short to reach properly. The crosswalker and swingy things are good though.

What you mean like subsidised local authority facilities that are often far cheaper than commercial ones.

Yes, just like those but closer to where I live and free, hopefully.
They don't need to be extravagant - weights and bars for bodyweight exercises, few mats for floor exercises, maybe a bit of gymnastic equipment and away you go. |

You live in a beautiful part of the country but I can't think that there is anything close.

As far as I'm concerned you (and most people claiming benefits) are intelligent enough to decide how to spend your money .
I hope you are better at attending the gym than I was |

I was prescribed a brief gym membership before I had spinal surgery, I went but I absolutely hated every second of it so I know membership would be wasted on me. I admire people who attend regularly while I'm lard arsing on the sofa looking at my exercise bike |

I had a referral in 2012 and was attending twice a week. I stuck at it for 6-7 months. I lost momentum due to illness and other stuff. |
