I would like a new duvet... So thinking of goose feather and down one, why are Hungarian and Siberian goose feather duvets so expensive?? What's these geese got that ours haven't? |

Rarity and good thermal insulation I believe.
I opted for duck down instead, a 3-in-1 all-season one from John Lewis during one of its sales, as I do not believe it is necessary to spend that much on a duvet, when I have good heating and insulation in the house.
I have yet to use both together as it is way to warm for me to have a 13.5 Tog duvet at home, just the 9 Tog one all year round as the bedroom has climate control.
And I doubt if I can tell the difference between duck down from other downs!
For camping use, I opted for a duck feather and down all-season one from Ikea, as it is cheaper, and I had used both together when I went camping in winter.

It has to do with the superior quality of the underfeathers of birds living in extreme climates... The rarity of the birds and, above all, the microfilament quality which makes the insulating properties and durability of the down feathers more expensive than others...
For down duvets, IMHO, buy once, buy expensive... |

I agree.
However, I do not believe the extra expense is justifiable when the home is well-insulated and heated.
Hence I opted for duck down instead. |

Mine is permanently set at 18 deg C throughout the year.
The air con is turned off when I am at work though, to save on electricity. |

Ah I see why the Hungarian and Siberian goose down is more expensive now, why I didn't come up with my own conclusion to begin with beats me!
As euro says. Those birds come from a colder climate so their feathers will be better insulated!
