I was at a function last night (everyday life) where alcohol was in abundance and everyone was having a great time. Now at these functions the age range is quite varied and bringing your other half is encouraged as we like to keep things reasonable.

Well in any case last night I d*unkenly ending up fooling around with one of the older guy's daughter, now I've known him a while and its pretty much certain that I see him at least once every couple of weeks...

Do I say to him that it happened, or do I keep quiet and hope it never gets mentioned again?

It's often said that a man would prefer you to fool around with his wife then with his daughter.

I'd keep your mouth shut if you value your future sex life!!

you assuming all dads care about their kids, we don't know what kind of a dad he is, he may not mind of care what his daughter does

Say someone else the mentions it, we weren't overly discreet before we slipped away from the crowd sadly amd it was noticed by a few that we were away, and he asks her outright for example.

I'll mention that the dad was there on the evening, he was just in a different part of the bar.

Is there an issue here? I take it she is of consenting age? I've gone out with daughters of people I've known before and as long as you treat the girl and family with respect I fail to see any issues arising

Why would you have to say anything?

Unless it develops into a relationship why would he even have to know.

Yes of course she is of consenting age, she is my age. My issue is that as others have mentioned, dad's can be very funny about their daughters, which is understandable.

The way I see it is if I tell him he might go mental, but is it worse if he hears it elsewhere?

I'm not seeing how threatening your daughter's boyfriend for something he may never do equates to caring. Somethings don't need saying, anyone with half a brain knows that if you hurt someone you date, their parents are likely to be top of the list of people more than a little pissed off with you.

OP, if you worry about the lady's father hearing it via another source, then be brave and tell him yourself, and stop agonising over it.

If the guy knows you, and is "ok" with you, I can't see a problem. Surely a dad would rather his daughter was with a guy he knew and liked, rather than some tosspot he'd never met and knew nothing about?

They must have had an audience if there are others that could tell.

My Dad is funny like that. I've lost count of the number of guys he knew in the local pub, who were all right 1 day, then when I expressed an interest, were complete twats who should be avoided like the plague! !

If I was the girl I know I'd def not want you to go mentioning anything at all. If her dad asks which I'm fairly certain he won't just say you both found the party boring so went on elsewhere be doesn't need to know any details!!!

We respect our daughter enough to realise that she is responsible for her own life and not going to be witlessly led astray by a man. You do the lady and her father a disservice by imagining that there's an issue.

Do you want to date her? Then approach her.

Since you and she are a similar age as long as you didn't take advantage of her while she was incapacitated or make promises you don't intent to its no-ones business but yours and hers.

Do you honestly tell them that? How do you define hurt? Would you expect a guy to stay with her despite not loving her to avoid hurting her?

We all want to protect our children sons and daughters but you do them a disservice if you shield them from the realities of life and try to control how they form relationships with other people.

If you have a son would you threaten their girlfriends. What about their bosses , do you threaten them or maybe just have a quiet word that if they sack them you'll take them round the back for a shoeing. I think maybe you've watched to many sopranos.

I'll be honest if any parent had ever said this to me I suspect I'd have laughed in their face.
