Anybody read Paris Lees' article in today's Indie? Title: "Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club:
Why can't we cast trans people in trans roles?"
Not seen the film yet, but I doubt I'd have picked up on the not-blinking. Why is that an item/sign anyway? Can someone explain?
And I was thinking, IF a TG person would be cast in such a role, would not then the danger of typecasting become real? If the purpose of TG transformation is the attainment of the physique of the opposite gender, then why would a TG person take a role drawing attention to the fact that s/he originally wasn't that gender in stead of taking roles that would confirm their visually achieved gender?
I hope I make sense.

Not sure about the blinking part either, but would guess the person would be proud of their self over the space of there whole life and the struggle that they've been through to become what they wanted.
Everyone has a past but it's the future that's bright! |
