Ok. They should be loved, cared for, etc.

But is there such a thing as overkill, where it seems they like them more than people?

I've only ever had two pets (other than numerous fish), a Syrian hamster named Densil, and a beautiful cat called Apollo/PollyPops/My little price. As far as I was concerned they were part of the family.

I'm not a huge cat fan, but after moving in with my flatmate and her cat, I fell in love with Apollo! He was the best cat ever!! When we moved and had to re-home him, I was devastated, I couldn't say goodbye to him, I was so upset, that was a year and a half ago, and I still miss him terribly.

Animals have personalities too, and I think it's perfectly normal (and lovely) when a pet is treated as any other member of the family. (within reason of course)

No,

Animals will never hurt you on purpose,

Animals are always honest,

I live with dogs and horses and will always trust them more than any person.

I wouldn't let my dog eat at the table, for example, don't mind the odd cute doggy coat, but a full on outfit's going a little OTT to me, things like that...

when you look at the antics of some of our fellow humans, the way some treat other humans, animals, the environment etc its not hard to see that some humans find the company of pets preferable..

Like others Ive been really closely attached to pets, especially my last pussy. But it seems wrong the way some treat them as accessories, or put them before people, some of the time. Id be happy with a human puppy too though.

Ive had 2 cats, (one for 17 years) cried terribly at the vets when she was put to sleep. Current cat is now 6, both rescue cats. She is a moobag but shes my moobag and I love her. Have had a rabbit, hamsters (long story), zebra finches, fish, budgie (departed), cried again, also now have 2 fish again, needed rehoming. Honestly, what am I like? Sucker for rehoming animals.

while it is true, I'm basically going to say...it can be justified!- most animals are incapable of deception, they dont have many motives to hurt someone..

some people dont deserve the respect/affection/love thats given to an animal...might sound like its a nasty thing to say-but we arent exactly a species that can be entirely proud of some of our bahaviours and actions

If someone intends to hurt my pet(s), they are hurting me, if I fly into a rage and end up injuring them..I will justify it as they have harmed something I love, they can take those consequences!

so short answer, yes my cat means more to me than some people ever will..and I dont really care if thats right or wrong

I have helped out at an animal shelter for 30 years, shit shovelling, dog walking and being a general dogs body.

I have never come across a bad animal, only bad people.

There are many types of love, I respect all my animals, but couldn't say I love them,

they are a big part of my life, it would be easy to say my animals love me,

but its about survival, not love, they " love " whoever feeds them and gives them attention.

So no such thing as an obsession then? I love mine too, cuddle my cat, etc. Would I class my cat more important than mates or other members of my family? No I wouldn't. Would it break my heart when she dies? Of course it will.

I was trying to state though that some people insist their pet is the only animal in this world and the rest of them are horrible for whatever reason.

I've always had pets and wouldn't be without them......but they're animals and I respect them as such. I don't dress them or feed them rubbish and keep them as happy and healthy as I can. My little Scottie dog died last year so I'm left with 5 very loving but very independent pussy cats.....who have taught me my place.

I disagree. Some animals are like that. Dogs aren't. Cats are like that though. Saying that. I have seen my cat come for random cuddles and won't leave me alone and that's when I haven't fed her and someone else has.

My cats are members of my family and are just as important as my human family members.

If it came to a choice between a partner and my cats, the cats would win without a shadow of a doubt.

They love me unconditionally and would never intentionally hurt me. I trust them more than most people and as much as any.

At the end of a day a pet is a pet and on a totally different level to a human you can't rationally compare the two. The reality for most balanced individuals a human will always come first as you can fully interact with them and its a balanced 2 way relationship There are people who substitute pets for people and in general they are the loaners or people who struggle with a give take relationship not like the cat lady in the Simpsons but getting that way. Rationaly I get people would defend their pets its a natural action although physically attacking another human is irrational and not an acceptable response. After all they are a pet an animal and society the law and religious ideology see humans as far more important than an animal.

I'm pretty sure my male cat would disagree with you. The female cat not so much, but she'd definitely say "servants" needs to be added to the list of essentials.

They are pedigrees though and their breed isn't bred for cunning or self-sufficiently. They wouldn't survive for long if left to fend for themselves.

I have to make some sacrifices in order to have them, however, they are worth it.

And yes, I am a loner by nature who value my independence.

Fuck society, the law and religious ideology, they are all wrong. Humans are not more worthy and therefore not more important than animals. Humans are capable of unspeakable acts, to say all humans are more important that animals is to put the dregs of our species on some sort of hierarchical pedestal of nature ie: this guy here is a rapist and murderer but he's better than this dog that's never done wrong.

I love my pets most dearly but they know they are below me in the rank. What I would never do is dress them up, push them in a buggy or colour their coats as I've seen alot of people do to poodles.

Don't get me wrong. I would rather starve than see any of them sick injured and they are my baby substitute but they are animals and not dollies x

My dog was my late partner's dog, and I decided to keep him after his sudden death from an accident.

We had great rows when he was alive, with us both being very strong characters, and I had thought about leaving him on more than one occasion.

However, rather than finding myself missing him when we were not together (we did not live under the same roof), I found myself missing the dog more, no joke!
