Wind last night??

...Up on the Downs

I had a nightmare journey last night after that sudden, very brief storm force wind/rain 'event' brought road chaos to the south earlier on in the evening - anyone know what happened, some say it was a tornado or something but I can't find any news articles about it??

YES, that's the one. It was simultanously occuring up by the M25 and down near Portsmouth I know - it was actually about 5, 'cos I left at 5.30 and it was bedlam out there, trees down left right and centre, debris all over the road, 'A' roads closed etc. It was some kind of wierdness and came and went so fast but obviously affect the whole of the south! I'm amazed there's no right up anywhere.....

There was a tornado reported In Essex last night xx

The same storm front tore across the country. I told the kids that it was a storm that could spawn tornados. The horizontal rain and hail too x

Yea, but this wasn't the major depression that came in as predicted, it was some other short-lived freak event.

Sorry about the thread title guys, of course I only realised after I'd posted...

I heard about the tornado in Essex. Apparently it damaged 3 ford escort XR3i's and tore the roof of a Sierra Cosworth replica

It was - it was too big for a microburst, maybe a macroburst?? It came with hail but I did not hear any thunder.

Well, duh, I just phoned the Met Office - who knew you could, and get a real human on a sunday afternoon!

Apparently it was just a very narrow band of extremely low pressure containing thunder and lightning and squally winds that passed very quickly - not even a name (well nothing confirmed yet) just 'weather'!!

East Grinstead

Had the hallmarks of a tornado but too wide spread to be one.

At least all this rain has not been snow

We had a storm here on the west coast a bit before you by the sounds of it. Started about 2.30pm. When I went out last night just after 7pm I came across quite a few branches blown off trees. It had quietened down a bit by midnight.

It was on the news tonight, they called it a fast moving storm with 60mph winds but said there may have been several local tornados!! The end is nigh obviously.....
