Gotta be Man U. Their fans travel all the way to Manchester from the home counties on match day.

They have the most cafes in the Far East

They believe they will finish Top 4, Even though their team is awful and Moyes is in charge

used to think newcastle, but a couple infested the albion facebook page and got very insulting, which i rally dont like in people.

on big european nights, anfield rocking to the sound of 40k people singing 'you'll never walk' is the only football related thing that has brought a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat, so i say that.

have heard about it, yes.

disgusting.

race and threats should never come into sport, but unfortunately, football does seem to attract a lot of bottom feeders.

have to hope, however, that if staffordshire police were given evidence of the kind of thing he is suffering, by a member of the public, they would be taking it as seriously as they are with him.

unfortunately, i think they would have to wait until someone actually attacked them until something was done

Well being a Hammers fan,it aint us..

Most of the crowd noise you hear at west Ham is usually being played though the sound system,so the atmosphere is usually fake..

Any people who go and watch League 2 and lower, there the real fans/supporters of football so I resect ya all..

True, I was at the Millenium for Wales England in the 6 nations last year, and that really was hairs on the back of the neck stuff. I'm a season ticket holder at Celtic, and euriopean nights are very special there (as were old firm games) but that day at The Millenium was something else,It made me want to join in with the welsh anthem- and I'm english!

Rangers are still attracting huge crowds at home and filling three out of 4 stands at away grounds despite playing in a pub league.

I'm biased of course but only a handful of UK clubs would have the same backing in my opinion, and its the ones where following that club becomes part of your identity and not just some generic team in blue/red/green or whatever.

Leeds United. alex Ferguson once said that it was the most intimidating ground in Europe. Obviously things haven't been as great in recent years, but when it is full & Leeds are playing well, Elland Road's atmosphere is awesome.

Having said that all football stadiums atmospheres have been severely affected by the terraces being replaced by seating.

Haha, sorry man I am not buying that anyone who goes to the football looking like that is intelligent.

Unless of course they were aiming to look like an attention seeking tool, if so then yeah, he might be a genius.

Despite being in a city three times the size of Newcastle you have never ever in your entire history averaged over 50000 fans whereas Celtic averaged over 50000 and infact averaged well over 55000 every season since 1998

Easily the best fans are in the lower leagues who support there local club through thick & thin ......okay, thin, then - but are NEVER tempted to go glory hunting! The best fans, for sure!!

Best fans have got to be the ones who consistently turn up week in week out no matter what league you are in

Why don't you do some research in the attendances at old Trafford since records began

In fact just look at the stats for when United won very little in the 70's an 80's

Compare that to Liverpool and City and Newcastle and Chelsea

Then just to clarify

Look at the attendance figures for the year man utd got relegated to the old second division

Can't argue with statistics I'm afraid

"get your facts right.we were gettin nearly 50000.when we were in the third.and average is 45000 at every home game .to put up Newcastle against rangers as a bigger club is laughable.in fact i never do this but.,LOL . x x X45750 in the third and 43852 this season so your support is waining despite being top of a pub league..lol .ha i bet you weren't expecting to see those stats ..do you realise you have just proved my point.,.yes we are a lower league pub team so we must be the best supporters in the world...do you know another pub team with over 45000..so point proved. i think at last we can all agree the gers have the best support through thick and thin.and the best Celtic supporters will admit they wouldn't get over 45000 if their team was in a pub league... x x X

Despite being in a city three times the size of Newcastle you have never ever in your entire history averaged over 50000 fans whereas Celtic averaged over 50000 and infact averaged well over 55000 every season since 1998"

The fact is utd have had the best support in the English leagues for decades

Before we started to win the premier league

Ask yourselves where the Newcastle fans were when you were in the lower leagues ?

So the bullshit about driving past other clubs is all bullshit

If there was another club in Newcastle then let's see just how big a following the cartoon army would get

You only have to look around the north west

What about greenock morton.

Their average attendance must be about 2 thousand,

they sing,they dance,and they're completely shit.

They play in greenock, where It rains so much,

the locals have webbed feet.

They haven't won a cup in nearly 100 years.

And still they turn up every week to support their team.

If there was a trophy for loyalty, they would be finalist every year.

Having said that,if there was also a trophy for being slightly unhinged,

that would be 2 finals every year.

So I'm nominating the mighty ton.

I do I was one of them

Been going since 1977

And please do some research about how many supporters we had during that period

Then come back and comment !!

Fact is we've always had a great support

Home and away ! Whether that be in the 70's and 80's when we won very little . Perhaps the odd fa cup

Granted today we have what I class as the day trippers from Korea and China and Norway

That's how football has become . Success dictates that will always be the case

For me I'd go back to the 80's because for me it was better and how football should be

You need to look closely at your attendances from when you were in the lower league and now

Not wishing to ruffle any feathers and having not read the whole thread I'd like to add my humble opinion.

Best supporters can't be measured on how many turn up to watch a successful team. It's easy to turn up and watch a winning team. The op's question was who are the best supporters not the best supported.

I think Leeds , Portsmouth , Norwich and West Ham fall in to the category of best supporters, possibly even Man City. These teams get a steady average support even though they are shit, apart from city of course.

Afc Telford united a fan owned club. 10 years ago the original club went bust. No club no team no ground. Local council purchased the site and a consortium of fans backed by local business's raised cash to build a team . 10 years on four promotions to highest level in non league was achieved. We have made a profit every year bar one. Sadly relegated last season but fighting to regain premier status again.

Any fan owned club is in my the only way forward. Suger daddies come and go. Just look at the mayhem at Cardiff and hull. No interest in the history or sole of a club just the revenue. Our club has heart and sole,

We are keeping our dream alive!!

Why not? Manchester saw Rangers bring an absolute army of fans down. You can point at incidents that occurred but if you've that many people there, there will always be a few that spoil it. Whatever team you support there will have been incidents at some time. Overall, given the huge scale of fans there, Rangers fans were a credit to their club. Can't think of any other team who's fans would turn up in those numbers.

Costa Blanca Spain...

"In the year 2012/13

In all of Europe the highest average attendance was by

Borrusia Dortmund

Then Manchester United

Then Barcelona

Arsenal are the next English team way down in 7th

The toon army ( 1 club city) are in 10th

But not necessarily the best fans, though - hence the op.

Easily the best fans are in the lower leagues who support there local club through thick & thin ......okay, thin, then - but are NEVER tempted to go glory hunting! The best fans, for sure!! Being Newcastle fans it would be hard to label us glory hunters,We live two miles from SJP and couldnt love another club...unlike man utd fans from lancs that pass around 5 grounds on their way to old trafford and pretending they dont exist so they can hang out with the other glory hunting muppets

Haha . Newcastle boo boys

Utd . City , Liverpool and Everton all within a 40 mile radius

Add to those the other smaller teams like Bolton and Wigan

Just do your maths and take of your black and white barcode blinkersyou forgot Surrey Kent and Japan...sheep we call them not supporters

I can agree. With the fact we have too many foreign fans and day trippers

But in afraid that problem comes with success

Something that you will never understand unfortunately ! Touche...making us the best supporters in the land having never won a trophy for over 50 years and STILL attracting over 50000 locals!! Remember how many man yooo got before ferguson and the trophies? They were the real man utd fans...the rest just sheep lol

"Where were you when you were shit?""

I was on the scoreboard paddock for most of the 70's and early 80's then working many weekends curtailed the number of games I could get to.

I suppose I could be classed as a reverse glory hunter. Saw the shit and missed out on the glory

As for the best fans? I have to agree with the other comments about lower league teams who's fans turn out through thick and (mostly) thin. From reading the above Morton would get my vote so far.

Lancashire

Ill out an end to all this nonsense and opinion

Here's some facts to back up my suggestion

Anybody else for the fact and figures to do the same ?

When man City won the league in the 1968, they had the 6th highest attendance in the country. Manchester United had the highest average attendance of 57,552, more than 10,000 higher than any club that season, and 20,329 more than man City.

When United were playing in Division 2 during the 1974-1975 season, they still had the highest average attendance of any club in the country, including those in Division 1.

Now let's compare to the 1980's when Liverpool dominated English football and there were no "foreign tourist supporters" or "day trippers"

average attendance

1979/80

1/ Man Utd - 51.608

2/ Liverpool - 44,506

3/ man city -35.272

1980/81

1/ man utd - 45,071

2/ Liverpool - 35.407

3/ aston villa - 34,117

1981/82

1/ man utd - 44,571

2/ Tottenham - 35,100

3/ Liverpool - 35,061

1982/83

1/ man utd - 41,695

2/ Liverpool - 34,798

3/ Tottenham - 30,891

1983/84

1/ man utd - 42,534

2/ Liverpool - 31,974

3/ Tottenham - 28,701

1984/85

1/ Man utd - 42,881

2/Liverpool - 34,444

3/ Everton - 31,984

1985/86

1/ man utd - 56,321

2/ Liverpool - 35,271

3/ Everton - 32,227

1986/87

1/ man utd - 40,594

2/ Liverpool - 36,286

3/ Everton - 32,595

1987/88

1/ Liverpool - 35,582

2/ man utd - 35,152

3/ arsenal - 29,910

1988/89

1/ Liverpool - 38,706

2/ man utd - 36,474

3/ arsenal - 35, 593

Just to confirm in each of the above years Liverpool won every one ! plus 2 European cups .plus 2 Fa cups , plus 4 league cups . 1 super cup and 5 charity shields

Man utd won 2 FA cups and 1 league cup and 2 community shields !

Now can someone tell me where the glory hunting fans are ?

I can do the same for the 70's and 90's if you like but I think I've made my point !

Oh and just to cover the myth about Newcastle

Whilst they played most the 80's on the old second division their average attendance was around 20,000

Highest being 29.000 and lowest being 16,000

Oh dear where were the other 35.000 loyal Geordie fans ???

I rest my case your honour !

And this isn't Man U bashing but isn't football about supporting your local team. Disregarding everyone who comes from the Home Counties but how much of Man U's support come from areas such as Wigan , Oldham , Bolton , Rochdale , Stockport and Altringham ? Surely these teams would have done better over the years if everyone hadn't been seduced by the bright lights of Manchester.

I think the best football supporters in the country are the tens of thousands of unpaid enthusiasts who week-in week-out come hail rain or shine volunteer their time and effort co-ordinating the grass-routes teams who involve anyone with a passion for the game regardless of their talent or potential …

"Your opinions are just that my friends

Opinions . We all have them and all deserve them

Please can someone provide me with the statistics as I have to prove your points

Evidence is key

Until I see your evidence as a way to prove me wrong

The best supporters ... Manchester United

All you have pointed out is Man U have a lot of supporters. This doesn't necessarily mean they are the best supporters. Best supported perhaps, not best supporters. There is a massive difference. "

You what ??

Are you on crack?

My post proves beyond doubt that throughout the years

No matter what division we have been we have had the highest average attendance

It clearly proves that even when we were winning very little we had the best following ... And that means the best support ... It's Simple !

Support your team winning losing or drawing !

End of story

There is no other way if measuring the best supporters

If there is

Feel free to share your wisdom

And once again .. Back it up with evidence

Having a bit of banter is a good laugh and fair play whoever you follow but at the end of the day we are all just football supporters who follow different teams.

I have followed Newcastle since 1976/77 winning nothing but loving near on every minute,I am not better than a Bury or Shrewsbury fan though but couldnt change if i wanted to.

I remember coming back from Arsenal a good few yrs back after another walloping and we sat on the train a group of us with a load of doncaster fans who at the time were 3rd or 4th tier and had been to Millwall and won, they were great crack and very loyal to their team and town and would class any followers of teams like D_nny as class fans...Its easy to follow success

So I'm on crack because I disagree with your opinion on a matter that is open to discussion. How very narrow minded of you. This is why a lot of people dislike football fans. They can be very blinkered and not listen to reasoned debate. And just because you say End of story it doesn't mean your right. You can stamp your sulky feet all you like but it doesn't make you the font of all knowladge on football fandom. A perfectly innocent thread has now turned into a slanging match wich is typical of football threads.

"Not a shout out for your team. But who do you think has the best support apart from your home team.Im a season ticket holder for non league Gateshaed our crowds are shite,so bad I think we all know each other on speaking terms lol.Newcastle always has a good vibe to there crowd but Celtic Park stands out for me"

I'm a Man U fan and even though we do have a following I must say North East teams have the best followers. Newcastle and Sunderland in particular! Supporters stick with their team through thick and thin with passion and always make an atmosphere at their home stadiums. This is why Sunderland V Newcastle is always a headlining derby game.

does the numbers game equate to China being the best country..?

someone like Bill Gates being the best person.. ?

certainly in this aspect, having the biggest cock does not make one the best person to have sex with for all..

or someone with massively enhanced breasts etc..

respect that following a club through the bad times, like when Man U and to be fair Man City got relegated etc is a good indicator..

Chelsea for instance when they were a mid table and lower league team had a hardcore band of fans, post the russian's billions their fan base has grown..

'best' in any category is about more than one aspect surely..

was it Bournemouth who recently had a collection for the fans of another team when a game was postponed late on..?

thats got to put them up there in any league of 'best'..

I agree it's easy to follow success

But uniteds success has only been in he last 20 years

I was supporting united in 77

Was first a league match ticket holder then season ticket holder throughout the eighties and 90's and up to the mid 2000"a

Been to every league ground in the prem with the exception of highbury

Been to Italy , France . Czech Republic . Holland . Spain . Russia and Norway to watch united

Only when I saw what the glazers were doing to the club I love I quit my season ticket

Thought about joining FC united for about 10 minutes before coming to my senses

I stick to away games these days .. Prefer it more

I agree that there are great fans all over the world and I can't say I'm a better fan than you

What I can do is answer the question put to a me with evidence

Nobody else can appear to do the same

That's just the way it is

Man utd are hated throughout England

But there's no denying the support we have

But surely using that train of logic suggests Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus are being followed by the most discerning and knowledgeable music fans on twitter …
