Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Pretty much my MO unfortunately. Sometimes my sense of humour doesn't translate well online.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

No but I have been told that my responses appear/are harsh until they get to know my humour.

"Have you ever replied politely then afterward's thought that was abit sarcastic but completely unintentional??"

I once sent Gentleman Ben a message. It was completely and intentionally sarcastic but he spoilt it by replying politely. It made me question my motives...could I have been a better person? I decided no and sent another.

Example on a different site!

Girl winks at me! (She is pretty) obviously knows she is good looking. See she is wearing a big hat so send her a message.

"Ha hey thanks for the wink is that a large hat or is your head exceptionally small?"

Sends one back "Lol my head is small"

I send "That's okay little miss I can save you from the undateables"

Blocked!!!!

Oh dear.

Even the most innocuous banter can translate badly in writing. I try to take care with what I write, add the odd smiley, but still manage to get embroiled in misunderstandings. It's the missing out on voice, inflection, body language etc.

I'm terribly sarcastic, some take offence, I generally mean no harm! I just can't help it. It just kind off falls out of my mouth.

Anything in text form can be interpreted in a lot of ways, or misinterpreted.

That take big book in your hotel room bedside table for instance.

Sarcasm mode is always on with me. I struggle with posting on the forums sometimes because I have to re-read what I've written to make sure it's not going to offend (I may not always be successful). A lot of the time I just walk away from the thread instead of risking saying anything.

I don't see how that's possible, you could say something horrible and I'd take it as cheeky playing hard to get banter

Just read the headline 'Motorcyclist killed in A1 collision' on the BBC website.

I for one think that, of all people, the media should show more respect to the grieving family and refrain from rating fatal accidents.

I have a policy of replying both politely and literally to messages.

But.apparently answering only what they asked is sarcastic

Though once they've started being arsey I do often let loose.

When I type it, it seems funny and I like what I said, somehow after I press send / post, something magically transforms it into ascorbic sarcasm. but hey who cares
