Recent films worth a watch (no horror though!):

Rush...Janes Hunt and Niki Lauda.

American Hustle...Con artists and the FBI.

Her...Sci-Fi about the love affair between a man and his Operating System.

12 Years a Slave...a kidnapped black guy sold into slavery.

The Wolf on Wall Street...Scorcese, DiCaprio and lots of money.

The Hunt (Jagten, to give it it's correct Danish title)...false child abuse allegations, starring the guy that recently played Hannibal Lector.

Being a geek I have seen all of those, but they were all bested by The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, truly lovely film.

I love comic book films, newish ones would recommend:-

-The Wolverine (the one set in Japan)

-Superman, Man of Steel.

-Marvel Avengers Assemble

If you like Westerns, "The Lone Ranger", Jonny Depp plays Tonto and was a good laugh.

Sci-fi, "Prometheus" and there was a film i watched a couple of months ago with Will Smith and his son in, think it was called "After Earth" was a good film.

For horrors, The Exorcist or Texas chainsaw massacre.
