Just thinking summer hols with the kids and considering ferry crossing from Dover to France and some form of Eurocamp style site staying in caravan or tent, watersports and lots of child friendly activities on tap and close to beach .... maybe taking in the battlefields and Paris .... never driven abroad before but think this is the year to do it !!! Any thoughts ???  |

I advise you not to stay in the North west: if you fancy the sea, head down south near Arcachon or La Rochelle. Or if you're going to Paris, go a little bit further in Burgundy.
For any other part, I think the plane might be an easier option (Pyrennées are wonderful though  ) |

We have holidayed many times in France with the kids. Always had a great time. Great food, excellent booze and lovely people. The beaches are clean but can be crowded in the summer. Driving is very easy as well. |

When I was a kid we used to visit Port Grimaud(sp) near St Tropez, I always liked it down there buts its not the real France. |

Royan is lovely and, perhaps in other circumstances, handy for Montalivet. |

We have stayed in and around Royan a few times. Wonderful beaches and La Palmere zoo (probably spelt wrong) is excellent. |

We use a company called Canvas Holidays who are very good value. We love Biarritz and have been there twice.
Great country, fantastic food and lovely people... but then I am a fully paid up Francophile  |

Well forget what others on here are telling you.. LOL We have toured all over france and spain and made the informed descision move to here right on the Normandy Brittany border five years ago. Its an amazing region. Yes the D Day beaches are a great draw, especially as its the 70th anniversary this year. so much going on. Then you all of "our" own history dating back to the middle ages. Then there are the beaches. Not just the big open exposed long miles of featureless sand further south. we have a real mix here. Thanks to the bay of Le Mont St Michel we have a superb microclimate too! Driving round here is easy too, empty roads, easygoing motorists. For your first trip its got to be a good choice. If you want to know more, feel free to ask. Can even point you towards a great club scene, the french swingers really know how to enjoy themselves. and of course we are here too! |
