I remember the Christmas before leaving my husband sitting around the table surrounded by my family and feeling desperately sad and lonely.
I've been on my own seven years and haven't felt lonely for one second! |

It's not uncommon to feel lonely in a crowded place, or even when with friends. As Diamond said earlier, it's more a state of mind and can be overcome.
As a wild and out of control teenager I spent years feeling lonely, even though I had some very close friends (still friends even now).
I dealt with it by talking to a tree, writing poetry and short stories. That old tree got me through some pretty emotionally rough times |

I'm one who enjoys my own company, Siren is the same. It's one of the things that makes our marriage work as I work away from home a lot so she gets her free time and I get mine. I can honestly say I've never ever felt lonely in my life, even when I was single. (I began swinging as a single and I had more fun as a single than we've ever had as a couple). |

"has anyone felt lonely whilst surrounded by family and friends ? "
There are many people feel this way at times. We find we aren't lonely with friends but often a little with family as you cannot choose family.
