I think there are similarities between romancing a guy and a lady. For want of a better term, I think you have to get inside their head and really understand what is meaningfully romantic to them and then surprise them with it. Being willing to really connect with each other can be very romantic. Also I think some personalities will respond better to romance than others.

Romance is in the little things....when unexpectedly a guy takes your hand and presses it to his lips.....and gives you that look.......or when you have a little something that you share...that's just your own....like a favourite late night tipple. Big romantic gestures are just for show and more for other people than the intended recipient. Its the private special little things that make romance.....*sigh* ..... |

Been musing a bit more about this. I am thinking about a few different dimensions to romance..
Romantic moments..looks, touches, private gestures, intimate dancing etc.,
Romantic events...weekend in log cabin, special meals, evenings etc...
The process of romancing...wooing, dating, arranging romantic events and behaving romantically....
Underpinning this would be a romantic mindset or disposition directly linked to an increasingly wholehearted emotional connection with each other

I'm romantic at times but it really does depend on the man. My romantic gestures with one will be welcomed and with another would have him running for the nearest nuclear bunker.
I do think there is a residual thing about the traditional ways simply because of the game playing element that goes on. A woman making an overtly romantic gesture may be deemed as scary and pushing for a commitment vs waiting for the man to indicate he is ready for a commitment through romance.

I am in a bit tizzy lately as the colleague that I have a soft spot for the past 2 years is leaving soon.
I do not flirt with him at work or outside work at social functions, and have bottled my affection for him for the past 2 years.
I have made and given him a card that let him know I have naughty thoughts for him recently.
He is attached with a long term girlfriend, and I have always regarded him as an untouchable, being a colleague as well as being attached.
However, I just wanted him to know how I feel about him from myself before he leaves.
Nothing ventured nothing gained, and I feel a lot better now that the cat is out of the bag.
Can't stop thinking about him though.
It is just a phase, and it will soon pass, once he has left.
I am just enjoying the ride while it lasts. |

I'm happy to accept that romance and romantic gestures are probably not for basic swinging meets/activity.
But of course as we all know, it's not unusual on here for things to get past the basics, and then maybe romance creeps in! |

It's about making that one person feel special even if it's only for one night. As long as the line/boundary is clear why not?!
Surely it's about doing your upmost to make it a pleasurable evening/weekend
