Heres the situation....

A man writes a personal, sentimental/ love poem for someone else 3 years ago....then slightly edited it and re-sent to me.

My view......not nice.

Am I being overly sensitive?

I think its one of the few occasions in life when he might have been better to just lie! Or simply not tell me that?????

Perhaps it expresses how he feels and if he tried he couldn't write a better way to say it?

Maybe it's less about the origin, more about its meaning?

Hmmm....not sure. He might as well give me an engagement ring bought for someone else too!

Poetry?

We have to write poetry now?

That said, if you are going to do that, it should at least be original.

Lol....no....dont panic! You are not required to write poetry....but if you do something for someone with that person in mind...it shouldn't be recycled years later! It was that person only!

no your not being overly senstive he either kept a copy for 3years or remembers it almost word for word years later

that would bother me more (just my take on things)

Brighton - even Hove!

Not quite that personal. I'd prefer a hint of the original but much more personalized.

Any man writing me a poem would bother me. A recycled one I would take as an insult

I just think that something so personal and precious should be kept for those two people.

Poems, engagement rings (yes..I have heard of people recyling engagement rings from the ex too!), SEX TOYS (!) and anything of such a private nature, completely loses all meaning when you recycle it! I just wouldn't dream of it! But maybe I am just old fashioned!

I am a total romantic so if someone goes to the effort of writing me a poem or little love note etc....I love that..IF it has been written ONLY for me!

So it wouldnt bother you that she originally wrote it for another man, he has gone so she gives it to you instead? Doesnt bother you?

I'm a romantic at heart just something about men writing love poems makes me uncomfortable. I don't know why, it's just me. I do think your man should have written one solely for you. Isn't that the purpose of poetry, writing what is in your heart?

Aww it would bother me! You can have the one I wrote earlier today on Valentine Poems thread. It's original and never given to anyone else. x

Oh he isnt MY man....he is just an admirer. I think thats the best description I can come up with! Maybe trying his luck? ??...but thats not the point so I agree...if someone is going to bother to write someone a letter or poem, at least write it for the person it is intended for and ONLY them!

Lol...oh yes...maybe slightly off topic but I have had a man dig out a bunch of sex toys he used to use on his ex...with the foolish belief that I wouldn't object to a little dildo recycling! TAXI!!!!!

my ex lent our friends my dildo and seriously thought I would want it back. *mouth vomit* he also wrote me a poem when he realised he was going to become my ex. That's probably why I don't like soppy poetry. Tear up the poem and find someone who treats you like the unique woman you are

When I was but a young student - I slept with my flatmates ex (he had been with her two days and they had been split up for a week) and he wrote an angry poem and pinned it to his door.

I was sure to hide the knives....

there once was a fab user called glitter kitten,

she met a man who had become very smitten,

He wrote her a poem entirely with passion and flair,

She loved his detail on her lovely hair

Her panties moistened as she read,

then she realized she wasnt even a redhead!

Awww you are sweet but I am not in a relationship with this man. He just likes me a lot and sent me the poem saying it was for me but he later admitted it wasnt exactly original! I told him I dont think that's very nice but he doesnt seem to understand why. So I thought maybe I am being too sensitive? Too harsh? That was the reason for my post. I am not a broken hearted woman! Dont worry! Just interested in others views on different situations we find ourselves in life
