I have no idea why some phrases and poor use of English makes me so crazy, especially when some Americans crucify our language! My best friend is American by the way...but she speaks 'proper'! Lol! So this isn't an anti American rant! Love them really!

But phrases such as...

'I gotten myself a drink' ..Gotten? GOT!!!

'Enough already' instead of simply saying 'Enough'!

'Innit'.....need I say more?

I am just a snob? Lol! I have am irrationally incensed by it!

Must get a hobby!

"I don't know nothing about..."

"I'm going gymn" (to the!!!)

and using less instead of fewer is a personal hate of mine.

E.g. "There are FEWER men on Fabs than women."

"I don't know nothing about..."...a double negative I believe and I agree....if you 'don't know nothing' then you know SOMETHING! Right?

"Film, filum or flim are all acceptable depending on ethnicity.

Movie is short for moving picture and has its origins at the dawn of cinema. Not sure how that's not acceptable? It's more accurate than film that refers to the medium not the end result.

'Absolutely' in stead of 'indeed', or 'quite'.

'Thort' in stead of 'thought'

and, indeed, 'of' in stead of 'have'.

Hello Little Kitten,

I quite agree with you, but what I find strange is that while Americans have given up on 'English' spelling as it's too difficult to learn but their general speech uses more words than are required to make themselves understood.

Unfortunately the media speaks more and more American for some reason. Bring back simple spoken English, it's much nicer on the ear.

Alec

Any phrase involving the giving of more than 100%.

It's impossible, I'm a million % correct.
