I walked into our frontroom the other day and guess what, my daughter had left the TV switched on again. On the Telly was Great Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo . Must have come on after she left the room.
Any way he'd just left Bletchley which attracted my attention. He then went on to Wolverton as there some really old railway repair yard or something. Any way he went into this town, I think, and was talking about two Inns in the town which together were the origin of the phrase "a cock and bull story". Anyway he said with a completely straight face that he'd been advised to spend the night with the Cock Inn.
I was rolling about on the floor nearly crying with laughter. Anybody else see this programme?

"i love that programme! i'm no train spotter or a fan of Portillo but he does present it so well and the content is not only interesting, but well revised too wouldn't we all like a Cock Inn "
Well NO actually.... but each to their own!
But yes despite the subject and the presenter it is a fascinating programme. I really didn't expect the comedy though.

He has a very dry wit and delivers with a completely straight face. I enjoy watching him. |
