by Dick King Smith was one of ny favourite books as a young child, I entered the Mid-Somerset Festival every year whilst at Junior's school at at age 8 The Hodgeheg was the book of choice for Reading aloud category. I earned first place that year and have always remembered that book fondly

i too loved that book.. we read it as part of our literacy hour in primary school.
Fave book for me was 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl.. surprised they never made a film out of it |

The first book I ever bought for myself was Flat Stanley and I loved it. When I was about 8 I bought The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin and as the years have rolled on continued to read each new installment.
My abiding read again from childhood is Pride and Prejudice and when I need a familiar escape I read the same cloth bound copy from childhood.

I read a lot. As a kid, it could be 'What-a-mess' where there were these great surreal things going off in the background to the illustrations, Gumdrop (still have a letter from Val Biro), the Famous Five and Billy Bunter books.
However, I did simply strip the history section of the local library bare.
