Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Fracking is being subsidised here by a government that doesn't care if it causes problems and will happily accept French or any other investors.
All the French are doing is NIMBY and there are plenty here that would do the same.
I don't believe we're a large enough land mass for fracking but what do I know? |

"We Brits ain't too keen on war on our streets but quite happy to pursue it elsewhere in the world."
Quite.
"The French will get the profits with no harm done to their country. I don't believe fracking is safe for the environment. "
I'd be lying if I said it doesn't cocern me at all.
The whole process needs to slow down until more information about the effects can be gathered from the US (they are finding issues), but nothing can stop this juggernaut now as it's lining the pockets of those with power.
It strikes that a better way to deal with this energy crisis would be for the government to set up a not for profit enterprise manufacturing solar panels and selling them at cost to the public (and creating jobs), although I fear that this may be too uncomfortably socialist for some. |

We've given up the critical element of fuel/power security to the 'free market'so were in the hands of foreign co's,no recent government has had the peoples interests at heart, fuel poverty in a suppised modern country is a disgrace,'country built on lamd of coal, surrounded by sea of fish should never go cold or hungry'well this one will because recent prime ministers have all been traitors! |

If you, or your granny, freeze to death, the environment will be the least of your worries.
Yes, there's techy stuff to get right but a huge supply of affordable gas which doesn't have to be shipped across the world?
It has to be worth more than rejection out of hand. |

"It has to be worth more than rejection out of hand."
But the opposite is happening and it has been approved and pushed through without a decent understanding of the ramifications. |

As I understand it, test boring has been approved - not commercial drilling. |

Fracking is no worse than the deep cast mines of the past it won't be trouble free but unless we invest heavily in Nuclear power like the French have we need to get energy from some place. I thought they were looking in having the majority of fracking under the sea anyway off British shores? |

"Fracking is no worse than the deep cast mines" Wrong " of the past it won't be trouble free" Thats the point! " but unless we invest heavily in Nuclear power like the French have we need to get energy from some place." Wrong " I thought they were looking in having the majority of fracking under the sea anyway off British shores?" And wrong again!
There are a few things we all need to understand about hydraulic fracturing as proposed in the UK. Firstly it will take water from our mains network. We have all been subject to hosepipe bans and many have had their mains water supply turned off because of water shortages. Fracking WILL make these events more common as we can all be sure that when it comes to a choice between us loosing our water supply and turning the gas production from fracking off it will be our water supplies that get terminated! Fresh water is a finite resource water used for fracking is permanently lost because of contamination.
As for the argument that we need either fossil fuel or nuc generation that is patently untrue, as can be seen by the growth in wind-farms and photoelectric cells on roofs across the country. In fact if the subsidies that have been given to business to build wind farms had been used to fit photoelectric cells on all houses in the UK then the vast majority of our homes would be fuel neutral or net power generators. However that would not be in the interest of the power companies as they would only be required to supply power to industry!
Finally the government made public the map of exploration licences it has granted today and it covers the vast majority of England and includes nearly every major population centre, In Wales it covers the only area of dense population that being the South Wales industrial area and the highly populated Central Belt of Scotland. |

its simple, our government and most around the world will always opt for fossil fuels first til there is nothing left, simply because it makes a lot of money.
Renewable is forever, theres no huge profits in it so why would they ever get the whole country to change. You want cheaper bills, renewable is the best and only way.
Fracking will destroy this country more than you realize, i dont understand why no one ever mentions Gasland |
