Please can you tell us how you deal with one word replies to your messages?
So many times when we make a new contact by sending a nice few words, we only get a one word answer back!
So you assume they are not interested, then they send another message back, and again, just one word like hi! |

I reply back with the same number of words if less than 5.
I then play a game and see how quickly the other party (usually a dubious profile!) gets bored and leaves me alone!
Kills a few minutes of boredom! |

Does our heads in too. If we get one word messages we either delete or reply with one word as well. The conversations usually fizzle out very quickly... But then if someone's that dull when trying to attract our attention then why the hell would we want to spend any time with them? |

The shortest messages i have received is 'your fit'.
...i can't help but be sarcastic and reply 'okay'. I need to learn to send shorter messages though.

I get "Hi" reasonably often. It gives me an inordinate amount of pleasure to reply "Bye" |

You say these are one word replies.
Do you ask open questions that can't be answered with one word?

If someone sent me a message saying 'your fit' I'd reply with 'my fit what? '.
Sarcastic, moi? |

I've always replied to all messages, even the 'hi' ones. I just used to say 'hi' back. Most times they replied with an interesting message, they just didn't bother wasting time on a long mail the first time as most people don't reply.
If anyone mails now, I ask which bit of my profile they liked the best. |

Speaking as a single male it isn't always easy to come up with an interesting, witty opening message that helps you stand out from the rest. Sometimes the person your messaging thinks you've copied and pasted or as they get so many mails a day just bulk deletes them.....it's a funny ol' game this |

This is what I do. I answer exactly what they have asked me with civility but I don't encourage them or give them any openings and wait to see how they reply.
In fact I find it can be rather entertaining |

I'd take hi as a starter, but if further messages continued in the same vein I'd suspect I was one of many n they were keeping it short n sour to allow typing time. In which case I'd ignore future short messages

I like to reply with one word answers to usual one-liners of
how are you?
What you up to?
Did you have a good weekend?
Why shouldn't I? Effort in = Effort out.
Oh and makes me laugh

It really depends on context and what your message was? If your message was "hi" and they say hi back then the line is open so start talking. If you say meet at xxx 9 pm tomorrow and they reply "yes" then you are on a winner. |

There's some people with a VERY high opinion of themselves on here.
Block for this... ignore for that... must jump through hoops before they will lift their godlike fingers to reply.....
No wonder people get pissed off and get fed up of mailing!! |
