Dave Allen. My grandad made me go over to him in a restaurant for his autograph (I'd never heard of him). He was funny so I watched him every week on TV after. |

What fascinates us about lists like this is the omission of certain people. Then you mention them, and there's a whole load of "oh, I like them too" ....
Some names missing:
established-
Dylan Moran,
Ed Byrne,
Bill Bailey
Reginald D Hunter
Russell Howard,
Rhod Gilbert,
Rich Hall,
Stewart Lee,
Andy Parsons
hidden gems-
Richard Herring,
Rob Newman,
Henning Wehn,
Simon Evans
up & coming-
Josh Widdicombe
Of course humour is subjective, but there's enough there to keep you in stitches for *weeks* |

Bob Monkhouse (only ever saw snippets)

Tbh, it depends on my mood.
Sometimes I want daft humour so I watch bill bailey.
Sometimes I want serious/dark stuff so I'll go for Doug Stanhope or Bill Hicks |

"Dave Chappelle!"
the first two series of the chappelle show I still think is one of the funniest things ever made..... even though they are now 10 years old
comics that i liked... classic... richard pryor, bill hicks, george carlin, sam kennison,
I still tend to gravitate towards american comics... there are exceptions.. sarah millican, al murray,
now.... Louis CK, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Dave Chapelle

Some great ones named. Here's some others I don't think have come up;
Jerry Sadowitz - makes Frankie Boyle seem like Cliff Richard. Somehow how he's more moral though, but too out there for the mainstream. Walked on stage at the Montreal Comedy Festival and greeted the audience with the line...."good evening moosefuckers".
Phil Kay - prefer him to namesake Peter
Daniel Kitson - brilliant guy. Saw him this year after a number of years. It's not really comedy and more. Hard to describe - it's just profound, amazing insights into life I guess.
Bill Hicks is a strange one - I was a huge, huge fan, but somehow don't like him as much these days.
The two I loathe are Michael McIntyre and sodding John Bishop! Just my opinion obviously! |

Im not a massive fan of stand up, so id really only pay to see either Lee Mack or Joan Rivers. But i do like panel shows like Would i lie to you?, which has comedians on it. So id say David Mitchell, Lee Mack.
For comedy actors, id choose Larry David, Steve Coogan, and although not a comedian as such, id choose Peter Capaldi for the Malcom Tucker character he plays in the comedy the thick of it. |

Dave Allen, irreverent, non apologist
Bob Newhart, clever, clean, peerless
Robin Williams, mad, anarchistic
Hugh Dennis, intellectual
One I agree with, Lee Evans, totally pointless and unfunny x |
