Netherlands feels like the UK in the 80s

I was walking down the street in Utrecht and laughed at what I saw. Kids playing alone in the streets. Adults and kids playing football at a city centre.

When I was 10 I used to do that. But these days kids are over protected. I was curious about why. Crime rates of violence offences are similar. They are definitely not non existent.

Someone joked that this is a country that didn't have Margaret Thatcher. I laughed. The Netherlands has high taxes, great benefits, social housing. And has been in recovery for a while.

Why does two countries with similar culture and language can differ so much.

Glasgow

The Dutch are, by and large, more comfortable with their lot and don't feel the need to do down their neighbours just so they can feel good about themselves.
