LIke Wowcher, Groupon, and Secret Escapes. Have any of you used them and what were they like? I am looking at the holidays on Secret Escapes and some look like a really good deal. |

As long as you manage your own expectations, you should be OK. so if its very cheap, there is a reason, it doesnt mean the whole thing is a rip off, but for example, the hotel might be nice, but the leisure facilities are rubbish, that kind of thing. Research is the key. |

I'm excluded from a lot of the deals on Secret Escapes due to being a lone traveller, but I want to take my Mum to Rome and the hotels look pretty good. |

If the metal goes up all the way through the knife to the top of the handle, it should be a good set of knives and a really good deal.
I bought a set off of Amazon in the sales a few years back and they all had serrated edges... Bloody useless.
My set of sabbatier (sorry i know that spelling isn't right) knives were almost £250 16yrs ago.... Ruby |

If you're going with your Mum and you don't mind a curfew (usually 11 or midnight) then goggle Monastery stays. I stayed in one just ten minute walking distance from St Peters and it was around £30 per night for a double room with breakfast.
It was basic but better than most Ibis hotels! |

I looked, joined, googled one of the offers they had and found it cheaper on amazon.
People i know have used it for spa days and the likes having used the places before, but you don't get the same as when you pay normally, so are you really getting a good deal or half of what is normally on offer for half the price. |

That's what I was wondering really. Also, as I said upthread, if I want to do something alone its more expensive as the prices are always based on two people. |

If I see a groupon / kgb etc deal that I want I just contact the hotel / shop / restaurant etc direct and ask if they'll do the same price directly.
Never had a problem, they've always done it. Groupon etc take around 35 - 50% of the deal price so they're usually happy to do it without the deal site |

Obviously I don't know about holidays...but another person bought a voucher for a 3 course meal in a hotel they were staying in and were given a menu on arrival. It wasn't until they had ordered that they said they had a voucher deal and the person told them they should have said as the menu is different. Turned out there was no choice at all , it was just a set menu...and it wasn't what they wanted to eat.
I think it is wise to be careful especially with holidays, the small print or the actual deal might not be the same as what it is normally
