Opposite of the currently running thread, who's work do you really enjoy on the screen, and why?
I love Geoffrey Rush for his ability to infuse buckets of flavour into any character he plays, ditto Bill Nighy, who can switch between deathly seriousness and comedy effortlessly. |

Anthony Hopkins - for Silence of the Lambs amongst other roles. It's his voice as much as anything though.
Jack Nicholson - my all time fave actor. "One Flew over the cuckoos nest" - brilliant ! Love him in "As Good As it Gets" too plus others. |

Morgan Freeman is good in most roles. I like Harvey Keitel and Joe Pesci, have a soft spot for Nic Cage in certain roles (ie The Rock and Con Air), and can watch Geoffrey Rush all day. |

Sadly with Brad Pitt he's so famous I can only see him regardless of the role he's playing, same for Tom Cruise & Johnny Depp post Pirates (his earlier stuff was amazing before he got typecast as the go to "quirky" actor).
My faves would have to be Al Pacino, Christian Bale when in character acting mode Machinist & The Fighter and Andy Serkis - his mocap stuff is groundbreaking. |

I was waiting for this one to follow on from the crap actors thread.
My favourites in no particular order would be.
Burton and Olivier if only for their fantastic voices.
Hoffman, loved everything he did except Tootsie.
Robert Duval, you only ever see the character never the actor.
Rickman, played some brilliant roles crowned (for me anyway) by the crazy Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood.
Streep, whatever you think of Maggie, Streep's performance in the Iron Lady was uncanny and brilliant.
Daniel Day Lewis, I believe he is difficult to work with but he eats sleeps and breathes every role.
From British TV I would add to the list John Thaw. From Jack Regan to Cavendish QC with Morse in the middle he always produced the goods apart from one dreadful sitcom (Home to Roost) which he must have been pissed when he signed up for it.
David Jason, brilliant comedy and straight actor. From Granville and Del boy to Pop Larkin and Jack Frost. A true national treasure.
There are a few others but they will do for now. |

Interestingly, Johnny Depp reckons Paul Whitehouse is the greatest actor he's ever seen. |

Steve Buscemi and John Cusack are rarely crap in anything they appear in, regardless of how crap the movie is!
Michael Fassbender gets better and better, him and Steve McQueen are making some brilliant movies.
