How flexible are you?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I had to see the doctor today about back pain and she had me lay on my back and lift each leg as high as they would go, one at a time. I can get each one straight up, so at a 90 degree angle to my body. She said "you're just showing off now, I can't do that without a bad back". Now I don't consider that anything special, I feel stiff and inflexible, and ive seen a few people that can get their ankles behind their heads, so I wondered what is the norm, how far can the average person bend? |

Too tempting not to try it, wee bit more than 90 doing one at a time, using both legs I can touch the floor but I think I might be cheating on the way up. |

I'll regret this tomorrow, but yes - I can get both legs up to 90 degrees. And touch the floor with my fingers, knees locked. Used to be hands flat, but hey... |

I'm an acrobat and pole performer, stretching is a daily thing along with conditioning and training in general. I can put my chest on the floor in straddle. But box splits evade me some days especially if I'm cold |

"I can bend and put my hands flat on the floor with straight legs, do the splits, and get my knees to my shoulders...comes in useful at times "
I think someones mail box has just got even more overloaded
I can't touch my toe's and am currently having physio for my bad back which is all interlinked. I would say I am about 12" from the floor when i try but 2014 will be stretching and building up my core. |

We were discussing flexibility at a party on Friday as two of us women of a certain age were a lot more flexible than the twentysomethings present.
I went into plough but I do struggle to breathe. One of the young men said that I should come down as he didn't want to explain that I had died of auto mammarily asphyxiation to the ambulance and police.

Eek! I couldn't do that! Even if my own breasts didn't knock me out I'm sure I'd be stuck in that position until i died and then the cats would have to eat me! |

My boobs do get in the way. If I had more of a gap between my boobs and my nose it would be ok.
I have arthritis like problems in my hips, knees, feet and hands but yoga has really helped me to strengthen and remain flexible without damage and pain.

Bloody hell, Lickety! You got me on the floor this time of night .
Severely disappointed: almost got my toes down. Have to work on it.
I'll go back to Pilates class. That was prescribed anyway. |

I am terrible at putting my legs up. I have tight hamstrings and anything above about 55 degrees makes them feel like they will snap.
I can go out to the side quite well once warmed up.
I've always been like it. The physio told me it's something that lots of people who play sport suffer with. |

Possibly A bit of fab fibbing going on here. Unless you're naturally hyper flexible (which is a medical condition) getting to the point of legs (unbent) at the side if your own ears takes years of stretching every day. I used to have a young ballerina do point on one foot with her other leg raised to her ear, stood on top of my head and believe me, without her dance background and my acro background, these things are not possible to just do. So for most, 90 degrees is normal. Making sure BOTH legs are straight. No cheating |

I was looking at exercises to burn belly fat and the beginners one involved lying on your back, raising both legs so they were 90° to the body. Sadly I managed about 10°: gutted, so not flexible at all! |

You can't spot train fat.
The Abbs exercise will make your belly bigger as now they'll be muscle and far, but when you lose the fat it will look better as there's muscle there to provide definitions nd shape |

There is no way I could manage legs by ears anyway, let alone with straight legs. I have to do a wide plough to get my feet down to the floor.

I'm quite bendy for a chubster! Can do the splits and put my hands flat on the floor with my knees straight. Used to be able to put both my feet behind my head. Think I might need to start working on that again. |
