I've been a regular visitor to amsterdam for many many years now and have quite a good grip on what the city is like and how it's changed over the years so if there's specific stuff you what to know i will try to help with your questions if i can  |

Clubs, sex shops, cinemas, shows, the window girls to have a look  ...heard of bars that you can go to and....show.

sorry but that is just not true .... amsterdam has very little street crime and there is a constant police presence in the red light district..... there is a 24 hr police station on warmoestraat and regular patrols by police on foot and bicycle .... the shop owners do not tolerate street crime in the area .... it's safer than most uk cities in fact

there is a club called "sameplace" (they have a website), they actively refuse to participate in what is known as "the taxi scam". this is where the taxi driver who takes you to a club gets a commission. if you want to go there then best off taking public transport like a tram. the window girls cover only a couple of streets now but people throng around the place just walking and looking, but don't get caught taking pics as this could lead to having a row with the girls in the street. most sex shops are pretty cheesy but there are some great ones. most notibly Rob, DeMask and Absolute Danny. they're S&M shops and have a good lot of stuff to check out. the sex shows get boring very quickly. |

Amsterdam is a fun place to visit. But do your research before you travel, don't just turn up and expect it all to unfold before you. There are some dodgy areas but you can also have a very good time there. |

I agree. It's like the old Reeperbahn. The attitude was that there was a perfectly legal way of parting tourists from their money so why tolerate street crime. |

I used to work in a sex shop...I dint think it was seedy at all....I used to make excuses to go upstairs and watch the porn ....How different are they over there to here? |

it is good to have someone with you who's familiar with the place when you're a newbie to the city. although i used to go on my own frequently to begin with .... purely because a return flight only cost £15 and was far cheaper than the train to london from north wales. everything has gotten a lot pricier than it was since they started to use euro's. £200 used to do me for about 4/5 days, accomodation included |

Golden Tulip wss a perfectly fine vanilla hotel near centre and short walk from train station. Absolutely no need for taxi, we walked round and enjoyed the sites. Gorgeous girls and a beautiful city to explore in day. I particularly liked the double decker train from airport |

Nothing like it was 20 years ago, all far too commercial nowadays ! I lived there for a while in the early 90's, fab city, still love it, but the sex side of the Dam is just commercial crap nowadays, much better places to go in Europe ! |

I worked there for nearly 3 years. During the day it's not too bad you do get hassled sometimes by dealers on the streets but it depends where abouts you go. On the night time just be carefull make sure your never alone. As I've seen and heard some disturbing things. |

Muggings. Rape. Murders. I was talking to a guy who cleaned the canals by boat and he told me it was usually a bad week if they get less then 3 bodies found. a week ! Fair enough some of them bodies might of been junkies that have fallen in. But when he told me about some he finds naked and cut up that seems pretty bad to me. |

No you don't if there found in the water. It gets alot of cover up they just put it down to people off there heads rather on beer or drugs and falling in. But it's up to you Amsterdam is still a decent place all I'm saying is be careful on night times |

Quite a few places depending what you are looking for. OK the coffee shops are pretty much unique to Amsterdam but as for the rest of it there is plenty elsewhere, especially in Germany.
I would start with Hamburg, there is the Reeperbahn itself for live sex shows and sex shops, if the guys want to do a little "window shopping" there is Herbertstasse nearby, and around the city are a couple of good swinger clubs and a few swinger friendly bars.
There is a very good swinger club scene around Berlin and would be well worth a visit.
For "window shopping" Duisburg has more than any other city we know of. The area around Vulkanstrasse has a number of dedicated buildings and all of the windows are indoors. It is free to wander around, but only for the guys, in Germany it isn't allowed for ladies to enter any of the buildings or "window streets". Around the Duisburg area there are quite a few good swinger clubs as well. |

Quite a few places depending what you are looking for. OK the coffee shops are pretty much unique to Amsterdam but as for the rest of it there is plenty elsewhere, especially in Germany.

That aside, if any trouble does break out in A'dam, don't hang around to watch. The Dutch police have a very low tolerance threshold and tend to whip first and ask questions later. |

there's more crime in bristol than there is in the dam and the vast majority of reported crime happens in the west suburbs. it would be akin to convincing folk that the shootings and stabbings reported in places like new eltham, tooting bec etc are happening in the square mile of london city. stop scaremongering .... it's an easy going city for visitors |

we were there 2 years ago.sameplace is more like a bar but with a dungeon downstairs.we also went to the paradise club.bit of a travel but its more of a swing club.we liked both of them and are going back on jan 23rd |

After visiting both I actually really preferred the Reeperbahn to Amsterdam. Good suggestion. Never seen anything like it, Eastern European drug dealers hanging out chatting to the police was a sight to behold.
That and the London bar didn't close the whole weekend I was there, loved that place. |

Amsterdam is a great city which mixes sex, drugs and lots of culture. We go every three months we love it so much and are returning in feb. It is a very safe city we have found we have walked home from la vie en proost (lap dancing club) at four in the morning through the red light district and felt safe we wouldn't do that in many cities in uk. Sex shows are a novelty and sex shops are like ours here apart from the window displays. Red light is better on the night time. the lap dancing club we visit la vie en proost is different to the ones here as you are aloud and encouraged to touch the dancers. Lots of the buildings are stunning the train station looks like a palace and lots of other buildings like the royal palace in dam square. If you want any more info can message us there is a website with forums that have lots of info on the adult side of Amsterdam but can't post on here. |

Amsterdam is on my bucket list but from what I've read here I can safely say there are definitely more places I'd love to visit. Just need a guide... And time off work... Probably a bit more money as well lol |

Tried to PM you but I'm blocked, anyway. The same place is mainly centered around a bar which is a great place to sit and chat or eye-up the talent around you. There is a dungeon downstairs with a dark room (great fun), there's a sort of dance floor and a stage where the more exobitionists people have a good time.
It's a place where anything goes, what ever kink you are into no body bats an eye lid, I've seen all sorts of strange things going on.
Give it a go the owners and members are lovely peeps all you have to do is not be a wall flower to have a good time but remember it's not just a swingers club it's more of a fun erotica club. Have fun

If you google Sameplace then you will find the opening times, Friday and Saturday seemed the best time to go. The bar is just the social side of it, mind you it was an eye opener seeing what went on at and around the bar |

I was confused on website as some nights had themes and other nights had nothing written in the boxes... So was not sure if it opened every night ? |
