Having watched and read the news about how bad the storms and flooding is that people risk their lives and that of their kids and also anyone who may have to rescue them.
The full force of the law must come down on these arseholes especially with kids in tow.
Sod the lot charge them with endangering lives as the sentences can be more severe than the usual reckless or public disorder offences.
Also social services should be involved when kids are involved as clearly not acting in the interest of the kids its pure luck no one was killed. |

I just saw that as well!
A family taking a walk along a coast (can't remember which one) and father held the daughter up to look over the wall, just as a huge wave came and knocked him off his feet! Luckily, no one was swept away! |

Yes a stupid idea and he should never ever have done it. I've not seen the footage so no idea where he was or how high the waves BUT I work in Aberystwyth which has been on the news a lot last couple of days and when those waves come crashing over it's one hell of an unexpected shock and scary as hell. I'm not condoning what the twat did AT ALL but I can see vaguely how he didn't understand it would be so bad.
What people don't realise, not every wave is a really really high one so they see four or five bad ones and think that can cope with walking/cycling along then THE big one comes along and people get knocked over and swept away. The sea is a very dangerous place even when you're stood on on dry land |

he had to lift the small child onto his shoulder so she could see over the wall and the wave came towering over that. I respect that not every wave is a big one but jusy watching it on the news i wold know not to risk it. |

How on earth can it be vaguely understood to have thought it may not be so bad the weather warnings stated threat to life how clear does it have to be.
No excuse or justification whatsover for putting themselves and kids at risk of death.
Also turns out one cunt was rescued afte going swimming in the sea he should have been left to drown instead of others risking their lives to save him. |

Well in that case he was a bigger twat that I first gave him credit for! It's stupid enough to lift a child onto your shoulders anyway by the sea when it's rough but there have been plenty of severe weather warnings! |

BBC news this morning were trying to contact the family who held the toddler up to see the waves. I personally thing although perhaps the father didn't think at the time clearly, he should be spoken to by social services and his children put on a children in need plan. For a specific time as his blatant thoughtless second could have cost his family something that couldn't be replaced. |

think getting social services and a need plan is a bit extreme really.
They should def be spoken to about the risk they put themselves and their family, also the risk they could have put the emergency services in unnecessarily. |

Sounds like an idiot, but Social Services?!
Should they also have a word with everyone that speeds, or has a dodgy headlight while driving with children? The people that swing their children about by the ankles? Anybody that's ever let a child ride a bike without a helmet?... |

Be eady to prosecute them, but getting a conviction would be next to no chance, so won't happen.
The problem being, we have lost the ability to spot a potentially dangerous situation. All due to the state/councill managing it too far on our behalf. So if there is no sign, someone in a highviz jacket or a physical barried, then the silly will carry on.
Years ago, the silly and stupid died out, but the state and councill is doing it's best to get more of them. .. |

People know the risks on letting children ride bikes without helmets! Would you really swing a child around by its ankles????. If you did and the child ended up in a&e chances are you would be quizzed by Drs and as called. Over the past few days there has been enough reports in the news telling people not to venture near the sea that family chose to ignore the warnings! They got lucky but it could quite easily not ended like that much like the lad that's currently missing in Plymouth. They blatantly put there children at risk no excuse for that at all. |

Our children have all ridden bikes around the yard at some point without helmets. And been swung around by their ankles and their arms (which they loved). (Should that be worthy of four exclamation marks? !!!!)

You chose to do that, if one of your children had ended up with a break from being swung around you would have been investigated. You chose to take that risk. Everything we do in life has an element of risk but being so bloody stupid like that come on!. If you look at the picture of the family caught by someone and in today's daily mail the sea surge is the hight of the sea wall that's without the rough waves. It's stupidity kids are gifts in life not a god given right. |

I'm confident I wouldn't have been investigated. Nor have we been following other trips for other similar childhood stupidity.
Having seen the photos now, I wonder what kind of fuckwit chooses to photograph a young family in trouble instead of running to assist them?

Oh and as a pervious poster pointed out, having swung her child around in a bit of fun ended up in a&e given very stern words I assure you it does happen. I've seen a family had social services involvement after the child came in with a broken limb from being swung around. Drs etc won't mess about anymore they can't afford to. They are more than happy to send children for sekelital surveys to see if they have pervious undiagnosed breaks. In this day and age your guilty until proved otherwise. |

I'm sure he didn't do what he did, with the intention of putting his child in harm. I agree with the guy from Aberystwyth on that one. There is always the one that takes everyone by surprise!
And in response to the news warnings, if everybody listened to every single news warning about the bad weather and stayed barricaded in their houses, then we would be locked away for 90% of the year! But as you mentioned regarding the guy who went swimming, then it's people like that who deserve to be left with the consequences of their stupid actions |

I don't believe that a child would be referred to Social Services for an isolated incident. There would need to be other concerns.

apparently the wrists are very weak and no way did we have any concerns other than getting her laughing but we really didn't see the danger in it every time any child goes to A E like this they do follow up to make sure things were not intentional I suppose that's a good thing |

Erm.....I'm not a guy lol but thank you for agreeing with my original comment. The previous poster seemed to be having a go at me for trying to explain, but as is usual for 'some' people in these Forums, took what I said completely out of context to try and make me look small, and conveniently 'forgot' that I hadn't seen the incident and that I also said it was a stupid idea and not condoning what the twat did AT ALL!
At a distance, these huge waves do look fascinating and I've lived by the sea all my life BUT people really don't understand how dangerous it is.
For the record I don't agree with what he said about the 'cunt' who should have been left to drown. A despicable comment! |

The guy was down here in Cornwall, he is obviously an idiot, if you live down here you know that when the weather turns bad like that you keep a safe distance away from the sea!
It was all over the news, radio, papers etc etc that there was gonna be a storm surge, high tides and dangerous weather and the warning specifically said to stay away from the sea as the current conditions were a risk to life, so why did this twat think it was a good idea to take his little kids to the harbour wall which had waves lapping over it? Not to mention putting 1 kid on his shoulders and the other one was walking about with neither parent holding his hand until the wave came over and could of pulled them into the sea. Pure stupidity and he should not of been there in the first place there were plenty of warnings and that spot is well known for being dangerous in bad weather.
People underestimate the force and power of the sea, there are pictures of polzeath and fistral where the sea have totally destroyed beach cafes, steps and left massive gaping holes in the road, that's how powerful it is and then there's this pillock taking his kids right down to where waves are breaking? Madness!
A long time ago at a beach down here a whole family apart from the little girl were killed standing on a harbour wall watching waves and one came over and they were drowned, a whole family gone and a girl left behind, it's not fucking worth it! |

My apologies, as I was writing it out I realised I had forgot who wrote the comment and I would have lost my progress going back to find out! Seems there is a lot PC brigade out here with no common sense at all. Getting social services involved?!? The most ludicrous comment I have ever heard. As for the fact that there have been plenty of warnings regarding the high waves, bit everybody will be aware of that. I myself have only today been made aware of it by this forum and a video posted on Facebook so I wouldn't have known either.
They guy wouldn't have put his child intentionally in harms way. I can 95% believe that he would have not thought it was as bad as it was, and they was unfortunate enough to get caught out by a huge wave! And to the poster that answered in response to the person who commented saying why did they film it instead of going out to help them- so because a guy made a mistake then they all deserve to potentially get hurt just because of your "I told you so" attitude? |

You live in Manchester, nit anywhere near the ocean, down here when there is weather like this you can't get away from weather warnings there everywhere, because it's that dangerous, anyone who lives by the sea know how dangerous it is and to stay away from it in bad weather, maybe he didn't come from down here then? Either way he's a dick for putting his kids in danger, sorry but you take one look at the violent looking sea and think to yourself, actually its not a good idea to walk out along that harbour wall if a wave crashes over we could be in big trouble we'll just take a look from a safe distance.
He didn't and is therefore a twat who is lucky his kids weren't drowned from his own stupidity. |

For christ sake, yourself and many others on this thread are automatically assuming he is from that place and he should have known. Maybe he wasn't from round there, or from a coastal town so is unaware of just how dangerous it can get. Maybe he didn't spend all his time reading newspapers and watching the news the past few weeks to see all these warnings. I myself didn't know the true extent of these storms up until today. So the people that saw this guy first hand, including the person filming him, didnt bother going out to warn him or help them. That is my argument, on the other hand though, if he was from around that area and DID see all the warnings etc then he is irresponsible for ignoring them. Lets not jump to conclusions people and look at things from different perspectives before putting out ten pence in |

"I am from Manchester and nowhere near the ocean"
That is exactly my point, maybe he wasn't from round near there, and from a place like me where we don't fully appreciate the extent of how bad the sea can get, as shown in that video. But isn't the video showing just big waves crashing against a wall, then all of a sudden a freak huge wave hit and come over? They obviously didn't expect it and definitely underestimated it. Afterwards I bet they felt lucky and immediately went back to a safer distance. I think it is absurd all these calls for social services to get involved for this incident |

"The guy was down here in Cornwall, he is obviously an idiot, if you live down here you know that when the weather turns bad like that you keep a safe distance away from the sea!
Lets not jump to conclusions people and look at things from different perspectives before putting out ten pence in"
As I said just looking at the sea and how bad it was shoukd of told him not to walk along the sea wall, I know where it is and he wasnt just walking along there to get to somewhere else, he purposely walked into the sea wall with the sea hammering onto the coast, regardless as to whether he saw the weather warnings (which he'd be blind to have not) he should of stopped when he saw wirh his own eyes how bad the weather was.
As for the one who caught it on camera, why should he/she put their own lives at risk for an idiot? Presumably they were picturing the waves at a safe distance like he should of been. |

Madness and reckless having grown up on the coast and working where i do we see it all the time.
Over the last few weeks the number of call outs we have had to people wanting to take pics of the waves is unreal.
We have weather warnings and they think its a good idea to take a walk upto the port side....fucking morons. |

"Oh and as a pervious poster pointed out, having swung her child around in a bit of fun ended up in a&e given very stern words I assure you it does happen.
I don't believe that a child would be referred to Social Services for an isolated incident. There would need to be other concerns.
. I work in that area believe me I've seen it more than once.
I'm sorry but I don't.
I was a nurse at Alder Hey. There would have to be other concerns.. Well I bow down to your greater knowledge than mine being a paed nurse I know nothing. "
