That'll be a standard computer generated reminder regardless if already filed or not, however log back in and check that they have been submitted lol

We have started a fairly new company and companies house sent a reminder over Christmas for first accounts by jan 5th!

Thankfully we have discovered xero book keeping software and found an accountant who completed the necessaries on New Year's Eve.

Anyone else have positive experiences of using xero?

Inform the hmrc and companies house that you are dormant. A quick phone call or online notification should sort it out.

Did anyone know that if you work for a company and they supply clothing with the company logo on it you can claim tax back for washing them. It back dates to 2009. I've just got under £500 back.

Hello I am a freelance bookkeeper and no you don't need to do a tax return yet! The returns being done now are for earnings between april 12 and april 13. So don't worry. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

This company is dormant, if they have only just started then no return is due until next year as it will be 13-14 tax year, currently it is the 12-13 year.

Don't forget advertising your business, or setting up to trade is classed as the business running so make sure you keep note of all expenditure re this.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I kept procrastinating (I normally file in August) but I have now sent everything to my accountant.

I decided against self-employment as I really hated having to file tax returns.

I made some mistakes with my first one, and took ages to sort out.

I only did it for two years before returning back to full time employment under PAYE.

I know what you mean but under PAYE it would be rare they would let me work from bed.

Before I retired, I used Xero extensively and am a great admirer of it.

Unless you have really complex affairs why bother with an accountant?? save yourself some money and have a go yourselves.

"Unless you have really complex affairs why bother with an accountant?? save yourself some money and have a go yourselves."

Mine are simple but it got confusing when I had clients who wanted me on PAYE and others that paid me direct. Now I feel guilty if I don't let the accountant do it as it's taking work away from them.
