penzance

I just recieved an E-mail going on about the price of petrol and what a waste of time the day of action was last time. ie everyone stopped buying petrol on a certain day.

WELL this guy suggests Boycotting the 2 major Petrol suppliers in the country for a year. As the prices are based on supply and demand. These 2 companies would have to lower their prices. Eventually everyone else would have to follow suit.

The 2 main suppliers in this country are ESSO and BP.

Thats the gist of the E-mail anyway. It was far more informative of facts and figures.

Just something to think about really

Wonder if the bloke who started it was from the supermarkets (Fuel dept) or the 3rd major provider

Arent those big companies like BT or British Gas where by they own all the petrol that comes in then sell it off to the smaller companies anyway so if we start using the smaller companies more and boycotting Shell or Esso etc they are still winning cos they will be selling more to the smaller companies - win win for them

not sure that made sense as got lost in the typing a bit

Was the email signed by the president of Shell oils?

The price of oil is governed by OPEC. The price of a barrel of oil is at the lowest it's been for a while but yet the oil companies are still hiking the prices up. As well as the Government adding it's duty. BP and ESSO are still independant, so no they would not be filling their coffers throught the back door as it were.

Tayside

Seeing as Scotland's only oil refinery is in Grangemouth and is owned by BP and all the other fuel suppliers up here need to buy their fuel from there then it can't work.

In the end it will no doubt be roughly the same for the rest of the UK (either BP or Esso refineries in the main) and they will get their money anyway by hiking up the cost they supply it at to the company you switch to, who will need to recoup the cost by putting up the price per litre they sell it to you at!

Swings and roundabouts lol
