people can't spell for shit

txt spk is annoying however I'm not really too bothered by general bad spelling, punctuation, grammar etc.
That might be because my Hubby is dyslexic though so I'm used to seeing spelling errors. |

People are not writing a thesis or CV they are here just to chill and get their point across.
There are also dyslexic people who post in these forums.
I for one would like to read a valid point of view rather than worry about how it has been written.

It must be great being perfect.
I would say i have good grammar and spelling skills but i am not going to look down on someone if they cannot spell. It doesn't make them any better or worse. |

Well i must be a moron as my spelling gets worse as i get older. I dont like text speak i must admit but just because someone isnt perfect in their spelling you can not always assume they are a moron. |

iz u dissin me spelin skils? i iz proberly edumacted u nw m8!!
if we were all to use clear and concise english and punctuation i wouldnt get to have my laugh at the funny typos that appear.
lifes short so is text speak and i must admit it does annoy the life out of me along with professional and discreet being spelt wrong but no enough that i start screaming about it but have been known to reject the odd msg with "fncy a fck" or " im board" !! xx |

Well it takes me long enough to type something out and read it for obvious spelling mistakes without worrying about whether people think Im a moron or not
I admit (quite often) I cant spell but I know if I write something MOST people will know what I mean, as I know what most people mean when posting.
I would also like to point out that I can speak properly, and about a variety of subjects, so in a real life setting most would have no idea what so ever that I cant spell. Many people are like this - brain works perfectly but getting fingers to type at the same speed that the brain works - difficult to do!!!
As long as I get the gist of what someone is saying I dont mind spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes.

Agreed, and there are so many undiagnosed dyslexic people for whom it should not be made more difficult or worrying and embarrassing to post. The important thing is the actual message although I will say that personally I am not keen on so-called "text speak" - probably because I am no good at it...;-) |

this is just a forum not a job application or official letter ect ect ! i really dont care if someones spelling gets alittle creative, mine sure as hell does lol ! as people have rightly said aslong as the point is put across !
i think calling people morons for not spelling correctly not only very rude but narrow minded and misguided .some very bright people just dont spell or type particually well thats all! personally id rather write something witty and interesting and mispell afew words ,than spell perfectly and write total bollocks lol!!
god i hope this isnt going to be graded ...ohh well detention for me yet again ...lol!!  |

I dont think it matters if you use a spell checker or not for some words, such as board or bored both correct spelling but if I say Im board its wrong, but spell check will never say I have used the wrong word since it is a proper word, just used incorrectly.
I know of many words such as my example where used incorrectly will never in a month of sundays cause spell checkers to underline or pick out the word, and you also need a certain amount of spelling knowledge to write some words in a word document since if you dont know the word how can you pick the correct spelling??
Also people need to remember not all of us have English as our first langauge  and learing English can be very hard, some words sound the same but are spelt differently : bored/board, whole/hole, they're/their/there. I would imagine for people not used to the English langauge it must be quite hard to understand, then use the correct word each and everytime. I was born in Scotland never left the country for any length of time and I still have problems with how to express myself in words at times.

im danish so english can sometimes be hard for me and oh is dislexic so our spelling isnt good, doesnt make us morons tho, we both have education to degree level, if people judge us because of our spelling then they are to shallow for us....

Now thats just rubbing it in Diamondsmiles hun cos I barely scrapped by with a couple of standard grades something about nice young men being naked stopped me studying, nothing at all about me being toooooo lazy to study
Feck I should have been locked up cos I still havent finished that studying and I left school 15 years ago - mind you I still like to see nice young men naked no wonder biology was the only exam I passed with flying colours

I just hope that those who read the forums but never post are not put off with nit-picking over spelling and grammar.
Popping in for a quick read would put some off ever posting seeing these sort of threads, and I'm sure fresh input is always welcome to keep the forums lively.

There's a difference between someone for whom English is a second language and someone who can't spell!
