was perusing my facebook while i ate my dinner when i am faced with a post shared by a gay friend of mine showing the charred body of a Ugandan man that had been burnt alive for being gay.

Dont get me wrong, i understand his reasons for being utraged by this story...the fact that it happens is disgusting but for me the words are enough...i dont want to see these images on facebook.

Also, he is friends with a number of children (children of his friends etc) and so i think posting something like this for them to see is wrong.

Am i over reacting or would you do the same?

One would think it's wrong, but Facefool is all about earming revenue, they don;t care one little bit.

Don't worry though, the Government inspired ISP block on porn will sort out such images, won't it?

nah those type of things really bother me too.

i dislike the sharing of the dog fighting/cruelty to animals pictures or articles either. I understand that they need the messages to be spread and you could argue that im being ignorant to the cause, but i always end up reporting the posts.

Children shouldn't be on facebook, that's why there is an age limit.

Im pretty sure you're allowed on there from 13.

And I agree Facebook isn't the place for it. There has been a lot of this type of stuff recently but to be fair, it usually disappears pretty quickly.

In theory, it's 13. Sadly, many intelligent people i know comment on how well their 9, 10 years old do on it.

Beggars belief.

Yet another reason why I don't have a Face Ache account. I agree with Evie that the situation is disgusting but graphic pictures are not the thing to post on public social media.

My daughters old headmistress threatened to report it if they were caught on there, she looked at as child abuse.

Logged on the other day to see pics of dogs being boiled alive. Disgusting that it happens but not something I needed to see. It's not as though me seeing it will make me any more able to prevent it

You can hide people's posts now. I have a very peaceful newsfeed.

agreed.

Anyway what's Facebook

A friend of mine was pouring his heart out the other day because his gf was getting comments on her fb profile from some foreign bloke shed had a fling with. He went quiet when I suggested a simple answer - don't go on / delete account.

Another dear dear friend of mine lost her partner after she hooked up with someone through FB.

I see no positives so FB does not exist in our home and my nearly teenage daughter does not feel like she's missing out either.

think the age limit should be put up to 16 or at least 18 because of the graphic images that get shown, and the porn video's

My daughter signed onto instagram or whatever it's called. When I found out I signed on too to this supposed nice family photo swapping site. I think it might have been 3 or 4 seconds before I found graphic cock pics.

She left the site very shortly after. Getting a bit tired of Internet sites portraying themselves as young adult friendly. I see grave danger.

Wait till someone you know shares and it pops up on your live feed.

A guy being forced at gun point to place his hand on a pile of bricks while another man hacks his fingers off with two blows of a hatchet.

Or the two Mexican men being beheaded by a rival drug gang using a chainsaw and many more that keep popping up on my feed that are just as bad.. Well done Facebook as they only a few weeks ago allowed this sort of thing to be posted...

H.

As a new years res olution I was challenged to go a week without looking at my Facebook. It's very very difficult. I managed and then challenged a further three. It's strange how my life felt better; It's strange also how I have to make more of an effort with my closest people's. The thing for me though.. Is my brain can't cope with those horrid images

either.. And the thing I can't cope with is that

by Sharing horrific images it endorses it all. "they burned that man" so I will continue to

be a an aggressive homophobe as it's not like burning.

I saw the hatchet one, I reported it to FB as it in my eyes broke there rules, however they reviewed and said it didn't. I defriend people on there for clips & photos of a graphic nature.

I actually love FB 95% of the time, it enables me to stay in touch with friends from all over the world and my hobby is international so I have lots if hobby related people on there too. With the right filters & security it isn't as bad as most people seem to think it is.

Facebook is as good or bad as your friends. If fb is boring, yiu have boring friends, if it is insensitive or offensive, you have insensitive or offensive friends. How much quality control do you use when accepting friend requests?? Do you have more than 100 'friends'. If so, that could be the problem......

I hate Facebook. If it was halfway decent it would have proper privacy settings so you could stop other people seeing certain things. Also you should be able to stop such things showing in your newsfeed.

Worse than pics as the ones you describe, I hate when people post pics of their kids, details of where they live, what they had for breakfast, when they last took a shit. I think the whole media sharing thing (twitter, instagram) etc is just people desperate of attention that they have to share every second of their lives...

The sharing pics of their kids is a whole other issue. Anyone can see anything that gets posted. Why people think it's only people on their friends list that can see... the mind boggles.

Clearly those people don't care about their privacy or security.

This was an actual Real life friend that I've known for years though. Not some random add.

I understand his reason foe him posting as he has suffered a lot being a gay man and o don't object to the issue being raised, just the accompanying image.

Part of his defense is that he doesn't shy away from these topics with his daughter who is 14, he encourages conversation etc about it. That's all well and good but by pitting it on Facebook you are deciding how other people should parent as their children will see it and that's not right.
