Telegraph saying 35 years. Bit worried that such a long sentence will be grounds for an appeal.

They deserve every second they get in jail and every misfortune that falls upon them

So we have to look after him for the next 35 years in a high security section of the prison costing the tax payer millions. There will be an appeal and either way he will be out in less than 20 years still the same sick bastard who will more than likely reoffend .

What is the defence regarding the death penalty?? And please don't say that it's not nice !!

Sterilize the women!! As they could have children in the future and being back the death penalty for people like him simple solution. Why should the tax payer keep scum like him in comfort for the next 35 years. All money he gets whilst in prison should be given to a charity to help abused children. Let's hope he gets on the rough end of a inmate and quickly.

He has shown no remorse and sent text messages laughing about his crimes after pleading guilty. I don't advocate the return of the death penalty but surely this type of criminal needs a punishment greater than that which has been admnistered?

I very much doubt the other band members knew and certainly wouldn't have been involved as they would been charged. I feel sorry for them as their names will be tarnished, as weve seen evidence of on this thread.

Maybe he will be targeted but that will probably be because he's famous.

Certain crimes (Ian Watkins, Huntley, West, moors murderers plus many more) should be put down. Call it bullshit if you want. That is your own opinion.

What YOU call revenge SOME call punishment. Remember we are all entitled to an opinion? Living in a democracy? Yadda Yadda Ya?

As for North Korea... I won't even comment on that as you seem worked up already.

Nobody in their right mind would defend someone like Watkins but capital punishment is not the answer. The death penalty is barbaric and we live in a civilized society, how difficult is that for some not to understand ?

Jailing paedophiles for life where they can do no harm is the way forward and we should all be campaigning for that, not baying for blood.

I do not want to get drawn into this, but feel it sensible to remind fellow fabbers of three facts concerning other band members ( or equally anyone else on this sceptred Isle) 1) Basic tenant of British justice is innocent until proven guilty. 2)This is a public forum, searchable on Google even if your profile is set not to appear on searches and therefore effectively publishing. 3) For those not familiar with the concept of libel, your time would be better ememployed reading about it than making wild, serious and utterly unsubstantiated accusations of the most inflammatory kind.

Actually a fourth thought. Incitement to violence is also a criminal offence.

Finally let me clear I do not in anyway condone the crimes of the convicted man and am pleased is being done.

:

if he is on a segregation wing then he will be with other prisons who have committed similar crimes.

With the type of crime committed then Im sure he'll be sent to a Cat A prison. The prisoners in there are not in there for stealing a pint of milk off a doorstep, they will be violent offenders. Attacks against others are quite commonplace and may be started simply as an excuse for violence. And of course Ian Watkins is well known, which will make him stand out.

i actually see the death sentence as a cop out, if i had the choice of spending 35 years in prison or having the option to have an injection that would end it all i would take the injection, i also feel if my child was harmed in such a way if the person responsible was killed they would have escaped justice, once your dead you know nothing, how is that a punishment?

Don't forget the defence of fair comment which allows exaggerated comments to be made as long as they aren't presented as statements of fact. Besides, I would think MOST people reading such a comment would rightfully disregard it for what it is - satire. I won't suggest you should ask for a sense of humour from Santa because that would be rude.

I always feel that many that are in favour of the death sentence must love the idea of public stonings and the like. Where justice is secondary to vengeance and satisfying the needs of a bloodthirsty mob.

And this post, and more specifically the fact you aren't even aware of what he was actually convicted of really does reinforce that belief

"Maybe he will be targeted but that will probably be because he's famous.

That and I'm sure the nature of his offence will play a role - aren't paedophiles usually targeted inside? :

if he is on a segregation wing then he will be with other prisons who have committed similar crimes.

"

a segregation wing isn't for a type of prisoner, its for prisoners who either need protection for their own safety and have chosen to go of their own accord, prisoners who are identified as risks or who have committed offenses etc while in prison.

Prisons do have wings for vulnerable prisoners of which he will probably be considered as one given the crimes committed and the fact of who he is.

The things he has done don't bear thinking about and yet to kill him would debase us as a society. Far better to let him rot with his life in ruins.

I still very much hope that he has the most appalling experiences once he's in jail.

I hope even more that we learn how to fight every sick puppy out there fiercely enough to break them. Internet policing needs so much work.

Teach kids to be savvy online. Teach adults to speak up when they suspect wrongdoing. Never ceases to amaze me how starving, battered kids with bruises and damaged spirits aren't spotted in schools and neighbourhoods!

Then the dead kid makes headlines when it's all too late. And I think, did no-one notice anything? Really?

Would you, if you saw an adult laying into their kid in a supermarket, slapping him about, yelling abuse at him, way way over the top, step in? They might swing for you .... Who knows what might kick off! And who cares, because of course you'd step in, before you'd even has time to think about it! Who wouldn't? And why? Because you see a vulnerable human being in very much the wrong hands, and you need it to stop right there.

I hope that monsters are rare and that most people are good. I hope that more lives are saved than lost.

And I hope that someone kicks the ever living shit out of him some day very soon.

Yep. That's me: a left wing liberal pc mardarse just cos I believe that violence is never the answer, other just reduces the rest of us to the same level (anyone want to be on the same level as Watkins?).

The death penalty does not reduce crime. It actually makes people like Watkins more likely to kill their victims than leave them alive as hiding a body can be less incriminating than leaving a living potentially talking witness. And in the cases where the wrong person has been convicted it can never be made right.

An intelligent, caring society should never need to resort to violence as a punishment.

Right I'm off to read my guardian now...

taking someone's liberty away is no small thing. I know a lot of people see prisons as holiday parks but really... Imagine not being able to have freedom. I think that punishment is fine. And let's not forget there have been many cases where people have been wrongly imprisoned for long periods of time. It's bad enough they have lost that time in their life. How would we feel as a nation if we brought back the death sentence and this happened?

Far better to hang or inject them and put them out of their misery. The likes of Watkins should not have the privilege to breathe.

He didn't get 35 years. He got 29 years custodial sentence plus 6 years on licence and he'll likely serve 2 thirds of his custodial before being paroled. Wrong but sadly a fact

There is no place for capital punishment. What this man did is abhorrent as are the acts of the women involved. That said I do not want to see them murdered by the state, that doesn't stop these crimes happening, capital punishment is not a deterrent and as a civilised democratic nation there is no place for it.

It needs to be ome kind of punishment where the criminal can't do it again but more importantly, it sends a massive detterent out to others to try and get them to stop and think 'Bloody hell, maybe I won't do this then, look whats happened to so and so'.

Thats why hanging in this case wouldn't work.

Lock them up, keep them locked up and I dont give a shit what makes there life hell, just make sure the message gets out so that this never happens again

Personally, I feel that his record company should offer refunds to anyone that returns products that he profited from.

That means the whole band would suffer when it was just HIM convicted.....the money he earned was not from illegal means so there is really sod all that can be done.....then you would have to prove he used his earnings on the crimes he committed....I'm sure that the band will not exist much longer given all the stuff that has happened

members have mentioned various methods of capital punishment such as stoning, hanging and lethal injection but how about cebereral asphyiaxition, by starving the brain of oxygen the person would fall into a state of happiness as the body craves carbon dioxide

this was studied by Michael portillo in a BBC 2 programme on capital punishment in which he looked into the rationale behind capital punishment and whether it would ever be reinstated not only in the UK but also across Europe.

Couldnt agree with you more about political bollocks.

I remember all too well joy riders going on Safari to help them see the errors of their ways, was only 15 years or so ago.

I'm not for capital punishment as in the case of lee Rigby the two criminals wanted to be killed, thats why they had an empty pistol with them.

It's sick but I would torture them, even if that means a lifetime of solitary confinement. That is a torture without any violence.

I feel sorry for the familys in crimes like this and lee Rigby's, even the criminals family.
