Any about, in particular those that know 30 year old landrovers, mines lost drive to the rear wheels it seems, still turns but slowly and with a clunk.
Works fine in 4 wheel drive, prop shafts are fine at first look, perhaps gearbox problem or gear selector but I think this ones a little beyond my expertise |

four Planet sprockets in the differential will wear//loosen or shatter pins.
The splines on the half shafts can round off causing them to fail
The diff lock gear stick is a bastard if not engaged and disengage regularly. |

Have you tried pulling a half shaft? Its usually the long one that goes, at the diff end.
Lost drive to rear wheels can only be one of a few things.
I've a 101 and an 88 at the moment, have rebuilt a few series gearboxes though. |

That's the mMost likely cause. You may need to pull the diff to get the broken bit out as they have an irritating habit of breaking in the diff rather than the drive flange. |

"Will have to break out the high lift and have a proper look again when it's light
This is a nice feminine topic for a t-girl "
How about lubricating the drive shaft then? |

Final had some spare time to work on it, half shafts broken right before the splines at the diff end, bought a high power magnet to try and recover the broken bit but bet I'll end up striping the diff |

Bad luck. Series Landies are known to snap halfshafts sometimes. I'd be surprised if a magnet will fish the broken piece out to be honest. Its not a bad job to take the diff out, then you can ensure you have got all the broken bits, swarf etc out. I'd fit two new halfshafts. As one has snapped the other one might not last long either. |
