its often worth having more than one as some pic up certain viruses better than others.
I have done scans in the past with one, only to find the other finds an infection.
I use AVG and Avast - both are free.

Sorry they are very rare yes but more than anything thats due to the rarity of Macs compared to windows PC's.
Virii are a numbers game and if you want to infect the most systems you write them for windows. But they are certainly not immune
Do a quick search on apple mac virus or go to Kaspersky lab's site.
Most of the main anti virus programs have a Mac version.
Get a PC and run Linux it's safer than Mac OSX or Windows.

I used Norton 360 and it buggered up my laptop totaly, had to buy new one. I use PC Tools had no problems with it at all. (Touch wood!) |

I had norton and it took 3 days to clear my pc coz it got infected, even tho norton said it was clear. now use Kaspersky and have never had a problem with it x |

they are not anti virus programs though they are anti spyware/malware which are different types of threat.
Though to be geeky only about 3% of the threats on the net are actually virii now. Most do come from malware/spyware. |

I forgot to say .. we also run spybot search and destroy (latest version) alongside AVG. On my laptop there's also windows defender but that's a bit pants  |

Just updated to AVG 9, have found it an excellent programme.
I suppose some folk must find Norton ok but loads of horror stories about it taking over your system etc etc, and then when you decide to get rid of it, it's a major operation!!
As has been said, it's also worth running anti spy and malware software too. |

Norton is as easy as pie to take off your system if you need to do so.
Uninstall it as per the instructions then download a simple utility from Symantec - (Norton removal Tool) run the tool, takes about 40seconds and presto ! All traces of Norton are gone, including registry keys, the lot.
Then feel free to download the trial version and enjoy another free 30 days compliments of Sytmantec, or if you know the secret, a free year, compliments of Symantec

Got to agree with you there except we have the Professional version and although it isn't free it stops absolutely everything getting through that's not supposed to. Never had a problem with it and it doesn't eat up all the memory while updating itself either. |

I use avast very good and free but I also would advise using
Superantispyware for malware and spyware removal needs to be run manually about once every couple of weeks.
Another good site is Gizmos freeware excellent for free software with good reviews and advice on safety |

If Macs are so good why did Apple stick an Intel CPU in and make them able to run windows, a huge leap backwards in my opinion, basically a PC in a Mac box |
