Has anyone experienced this, if so what is best to get rid of the pain

I'll explain what it is as I didn't know until I was told I had it yesterday

It's when you have a tooth out and the clot doesn't form to heal it leaving the jaw bone exposed

It's excruciatingly painful

Pretty sure you need an emergency dentist appointment. It can cause complications.

Hugs xxxx

Sounds bloddy horrific!

Over the last year I've had my fair share of teeth problems so I feel for you.

As above, best get an emergency appointment. You can call NHS Direct Dental on 111 I believe.

Midlothian

Takes 5 mins to sort after applying a liquid stitching formula and as soon as its applied the pain relief is overwhelming. I had a tooth out last year and went a week with pain before going to get it sorted.

The dentist said i should have contacted him after 24 hours of extraction as the slight discomfort should subside after that.

If you've got a dry socket, you really do need to visit your dentist, who will clean the area for you.

Omg how bizarre! That's what I'm suffering from! Bloody agony. I've been taking 2 paracetamol and an ibuprofen every 4 hours. Went back to the dentist Tuesday to demand he do something about it as I couldn't bear the pain. Painkillers were working for abot an hour. I couldn't sleep. Couldn't work and have been surviving on cuppa soups.

He prescribed antibiotics as it was infected. You may have the same problem. So nearly finished the course of tabs and it's settled down somewhat so don't need so many painkillers and can eat a little more. Got another check up on Monday.

Don't let the dentist fob you off and if over the counter pain relief is not working get a scrit from your GP temporarily.

Pain killers haven't worked for me either I've barely ate since Wednesday only yogurts and weetabix

I've still had to work although I went home early yesterday because I couldn't cope with the pain and it even hurt to talk to my patients

I'm going to see a max fax Doctor today to have it cleaned and packed and then hopefully like others said it won't take long and shouldn't be to bad after

I feel your pain my lovely

I don't think I've every had anything more painful

You'll be fine. Was worse when I had my wisdoms out. I had 4 days off work this week because of it. Talking a lot just made it worse and I was on so many painkillers it wasn't safe for me to drive.

Neither have I any more! You may never have wisdom problems. Many don't.

Just hang in there and get treatment for the pain if you need it.

"I can't. The smell of it makes me wanna puke. "

I can understand that, the taste is even worse (it burns!).

Pretty much instant relief though and inexpensive. I've heard peppermint oil does a similar job but without the foul taste (mint instead) but I haven't tried it.

I have it on good authority that if you are a smoker, you are more likely to suffer this problem. I know this doesn't help your suffering.

I had this earlier this year when I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed. I endured the pain for about a week and finally went to the emergency where they packed with a gauze in some solution and within minutes of doing that the intense pain subsided.

I still couldn't eat properly for 3 weeks though and my face was swelled up like a chipmonk it was horrific.

It should do, mine started to go down (slowly) after the dentist packed it, wish I went to the dentist sooner instead of trying to grin and bear it lol

I feel your pain. It's horrible I know, but with dental help you'll soon be feeling better.

I too suffer from dry sockets. Had a tooth out in September it's still not closed properly and I'm a none smoker.

Hoping your pain and recovery are swift and fast.

Dunno about Dry socket but I (Ross) had my wisdom teeth out last month and I got an infected socket. The hospital notes told me to phone the dentist and get an emergency appointment as leaving an infected/dry socket can cause serious tooth/gum/jaw problems

I'm mainly eating soup, yogurt, soft banana, rice pudding and well cooked pasta. Taking 2 paracetamol and a single ibuprofen as and when ss well ss antibiotics. Not seeming to need as much pain relief as earlier this week but take another ibuprofen between doses if I need to. It seems to be doing the trick. And it's not going to stop me having some savage fuckery tonight. I deserve it!

"The dentist puts a medicated packing called alcohol into the socket. It tastes like cloves if you recognise the taste.

Try not to knock it out by over rinsing your mouth with salt water or drinking with a straw or smoking or chewing. It may need replacing every few days. A tip is to get a little oil of cloves and dab a tip on the dressing ( not the gum because it is an irritant) if the pain returns, because the dressing gets dry over time.

As the socket heals the dressing will fall out.

Take ibuprofen and paracetamol for pain.

If you have an immediate denture you may find wearing it over the top helps protect the dressing.

It happens quite a lot, for a variety of reasons, there are risk factors like certain medications or smoking, but sometimes it can be just down to rinsing the clot out or sheer bad luck

"

*Alcohol grrr Alvogel (sorry typo)
