Excuse my ignorance can anyone explain what it means.

If you use the "&" symbol it changes to the word amp.

I think it's what is displayed when someone tries to use the ampersand character '&' instead of the word 'and'

Apparently it's the & 'and' sign just not being read by the programme used here.

so amp appears in place of &.
