Here and there

Fake pics are often a topic for discussion on the forums and until recently I thought that the claims were greatly exaggerated. Even after I downloaded google chrome for my phone and started reverse image searching myself and realised the just how widespread the problem is, I still felt that if you were daft enough to get caught out by them then it was your selection process that was at fault. That was until yesterday. I came across a reasonably innocuous looking head and shoulders pic which for some reason didn't look right. I googled it and the results that came back were from a variety of newspapers reporting the kidnapping, rape and murder of a young girl somewhere in the states - the pics matched! This profile crossed a serious line and with it my perception of the "fakers" changed from the idea of a sad old bloke wanking to the naughty pics he'd conned out of people to something much more sinister. I'd like to say at this point that admin generally do a fantastic job of quickly removing these profiles once they've been reported but the fact that they make it past the pic mods in the first place is the real problem. Thus I propose that it is time we take matters into our own hands until such a point that the site reviews every new pic thoroughly before approving it. There are always a lot of lovely forumites logged on at any one time and if we were to form a small group that regularly googles and reports the newly uploaded pics then hopefully we will be able to seriously hinder the efforts of the fakers to create new profiles. I know that this is a big long rant and it's not even Thursday yet but yesterday's discovery made me realise that there are some sick people making profiles on here and I'd hate to think what might happen if someone actually met with one of them.

How do you do a reverse image search?

Kent

Sadly with the huge amount of pics uploaded on here daily I doubt the mods will ever be able to check every one.

I do check ones that I think are dodgy and report though. Just can't guarantee that I could do it regularly x good idea tho x

If you're on a computer or laptop then you just need to right click the pic and paste it into google. If you're on a mobile device you'll need to download google chrome then simply click on the pic and one of the options will be to reverse search it.

Titz Towers, North Notts

It's a great idea, but as has been pointed out, the sheer numbers of pics makes it very difficult

That's why we need a lot of people to do it.

I don't know how the approval process actually works but surely they are all viewed by a real person. If google searching for every pic meant that it took a whole day to approve a pic then I still think it would be worth it.

No, I don't think so because they aren't public. Although I did find a fake that had used a stock photo that was the profile pic for a Facebook group.

Anyway, a bit of common sense needs to be used, if a pic only shows one hit and it's something like Facebook then chances are it's genuine, it's when pics show up on a dozen Russian porn sites that you can be fairly sure it's dodgy.

Incidentally, your first pic comes up as the Papua be guinea flag because of the stars!

That is very disturbing. I wonder if admin could check pics on some kind of android device like a pad - sounds like it takes seconds to check a pic on google that way.

Meanwhile it would certainly help if more of us could check and report fake pics, I do when I see them.

You need to be on google chrome browser, it's free in the App Store.

Forum Mod

O o O oo

Photo mods have the option when approving to use google search so it is already in place.

As advised a lot on the forum and on the other thread you started, if you think a pic mod has made a mistake, report the picture and let Admin take a look.
